Let me start off with the fact that I shot 300 with the Top Talent only my second time throwing it.........but I digress........ :) :) :) ;D ;D ;D

-About me:
Right handed. 15lb. Power tweener. 17-18mph. 360-380 rev rate. Turbo switch grip thumb 1/2 Away 1/4 Reverse, Turbo Quad Oval Inserts.

-About the ball:
This ball uses the same Proton coverstock as the Talent, with a slightly higher RG, but with the addition of the new “Smart Cover” technology, which helps keep the oil from accumulating in the pores. Essentially, it has rounded pores (as opposed to jagged), which is designed to help the oil thin out and evaporate. The core is symmetric (RG: 2.524, Diff: 0.044).

-Layout/Finish:
3.5" Pin above bridge, with CG kicked out just outside of ring finger; Box Finish (2000 Abralon w/ Factory Finish Polish)

-On the lane:
The Top Talent gets through the heads very clean and projects a few feet further down the lane than the Talent before making a defined transition from skid to roll.  The biggest difference in the reaction vs. the Talent is that the roll on the back end is very smooth and controllable as opposed to the more angular and more aggressive move that the Talent makes.

This movement stores a tremendous amount of energy for very strong carry through the pins.  The reaction is also very versatile, allowing me to play a number of different angles on the lane without losing any pin carry.

-Compared to other equipment:
The Top Talent is a fantastic choice on the fresh as long as the pattern is not too long and the backends are very clean so that you get the friction this cover needs to kick over.  Otherwise, I highly recommend it for the later games in a set after the pattern has broken down a bit.  It definitely gets down the lane further than most of my other equipment, but is not as long as my Buzz Legend or Crucial.

-Likes:
Extremely versatile and controllable.  Will be a great ball for almost any condition other than extreme wet or extreme dry.

-Dislikes:
As with most polished surfaces, you do not want to hit the friction too early, or you will see all of that defined motion happen way too soon.

-Summary:
The Top Talent provides you with the ideal amount of reaction off of friction with out being flippy/jumpy/over under, or whatever term you want to apply to that.  It is perfect in getting through the heads clean and storing energy to make a strong transition at the breakpoint, then almost turns into a different ball as it creates a heavy roll on the back that simply destroys the pocket.  I absolutely love the reaction, the pin carry, and the look of this ball.  It will have a spot in my arsenal for quite some time.

-About me:
Right handed. 15lb. Power tweener. 16mph. Higher rev rate. PAP: 5.25” level. Thumb slug and oval grips.

-About the ball:
This ball has a solid reactive cover (Proton New Smart) and comes polished. The core is symmetric (Radial Velocity, RG:2.524, Diff: 0.044). The cover uses the new “Smart Aeration Technology”, which helps keep the oil from accumulating in the pores. It was described to me as rounded pores (as opposed to jagged), which is designed to help the oil thin out and evaporate.

-Layout/Finish:
This particular ball weighed 15lb 4oz, has 1.9” pin and 3.3oz of top weight. The pin is below the ring finger, with the CG kicked out about an inch from the centerline (we didn't lay it out dual angle, but eyeballing it looks about 30x5x60). With a weight hole, it now has just under an ounce of positive weight. Box finish (2000 Abralon Sanded & Factory Polish).

-On the lane:
The Top Talent with this layout actually kinda rolls like a strong pearl for me. The core/cover/layout combination has given me a ball that clears the heads like a pearl, reads and rolls like a solid, and then flips like a strong pearl. This ball can hook quite a bit, but it needs friction. It won’t chew thru much oil, but once it encounters friction it starts to get into its roll and then flips. This combination for me doesn’t have the continuation after hooking that some of the other Lord Field stuff has given me, but it does not lose hitting power.

This ball has a very decisive break point for me. The turn is very predictable and “controllable”. Sometimes the shape of the backend looks like it burned up and rolled out, but it still hits, often with minimal deflection. Its niche has been medium oil, or longer patterns with lower volume, but you don’t always have to put it up when they dry out.

-Compared to other equipment
This ball is earlier but less continuous than my Bloody Cross. It’s stronger off the spot than my Exodus G1, but will go longer in oil. I haven’t thrown it at the same time as my Get Some, but I think they would roll somewhat similar with similar layouts… the Get Some having a smoother transition at the breakpoint. Comparing to older stuff I’ve thrown, I’d say maybe like the original Hammer Black Widow, or maybe the original track Code Red, or possibly a polished Brunswick Danger Zone (Not the original, the HPH).

-Dislikes:
If you have hand and see shorter patterns often, you not want to drill it pin down. It’s strong at the break point, and sometimes it hooks a little early on me. But I’ve seen other staffers with either with pin-up layouts, or less hand, and theirs goes longer and still hits.

-Summary:
I would recommend this ball for anyone who normally sees medium oil conditions, and wants a predictable backend reaction every time. Someone with a very consistent release should watch this ball do exactly the same thing over and over again. It’s also very versatile, so if you don’t want to carry around a lot of balls, this is a good choice to fill a wide range of gaps in your bag.

A good ball for medium/heavy oil patterns.  The Top Talent is very clean through the heads and midland before making the move towards the pocket.  The Top Talent has very nice continuous movement all the way through the pins.  This ball also hits very hard.  The only drawback t0 this ball is that it may be a little to strong for most THS conditions.

LANE CONDITION

Length:39-40'

Volume: Heavy Medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

COMMENTS

Likes: Core, Cover

Dislikes: NA

Bought this ball used from a fellow staffer because it was drilled like my Bloody Cross, love this core and Proton cover. I took the polish off to see how much oil it could handle compared to my polished Talent. Just as good and predictable off the break point as the original when dull (2000 abralon). 39' and 40' house patterns on both Brunswick and AMF synthetics, with heavier volume in the middle. Smooth arcing reaction (drilling). It definitely showed me when I had to adjust when the fronts started to transition. Recommended to start any Lord field arsenal as the cover takes surface changes well, with no cover death.
