About me:
Right handed. 16lb. Power tweener. About 17mph. Higher rev rate. PAP: 5.25” / Level. Exacticated thumb (slug) and oval grips.

About the ball:
The coverstock on the Off The Chain is the same pearl cover with particle as the Lord Field Heritage, but now it is combined with a very similar core to the Lord Field Jacked.

Layout/Finish:
This particular ball weighed 16lb 2oz, has 3.6” pin and 3.0oz of top weight. The pin is above the ring finger with the CG kicked out slightly (we didn't lay it out dual angle, but eyeballing it looks about 35x5x50). It was a little over 1oz of positive after drilling, so we put a hole on the PAP. It now has about a 1/2 ounce. Box finish.

On the lane:
The Off The Chain has been great for me on most conditions. This ball does hook, but it’s preference seems to be medium to dry conditions and/or shorter patterns (as most pearls are). It’s not necessarily a “dry-lane ball”, but it’s so good thru the fronts and so controllable that I can keep throwing it when the conditions break down.

I drilled it skid/flip-ish, and it has that general shape, but it’s a lot more controllable than most balls that I drill pin-up/CG-out. It’s very clean thru the heads. It goes long, just like a pearl should. The mid-lane read is good; you can get a good feel for the conditions by watching it roll… and it will usually give you a warning before over-hooking as your line dries out. (For righties, I call it that “warning 4-pin”). This ball is decisive off the break point, but still smooth. It has the benefits of a pearl, but it also gets into a roll a little like a solid, helping it get thru the pins and not overreact. Its continuation is strong and its deflection is minimal thru the pins; also more like a solid than a pearl.

I haven’t played outside with this ball much. It would probably do it great, but I generally only play the outside of the lane when they’re oily, and my Judgement and Big Hurt both hook more than this ball. I typically pull out the Off The Chain when the lanes dry out some, and this ball has rolled great for me in those situations. But most of the time I have thrown it, I have been inside of 15.

This Off The Chain has also been what I call “user-friendly” when it comes to the release. This ball doesn’t roll drastically different if you tweak your release at the bottom. What you get is a ball that is pretty forgiving when your release isn’t perfect.

I haven’t tweaked the box finish. It has rolled great for me so far as-is.

Dislikes:
I don’t really have any dislikes of this ball. I’ve gotten compliments on everything from the way it rolls to the way it looks. This ball has been a very solid and consistent performer on different lane types and patterns.

Summary:
I would recommend this ball for anyone on almost any condition, and even more so to anyone looking for a ball to throw on most conditions in typical situations. I haven’t used it much on heavy oil or extreme dry, but for everything in between, it has been great. This is probably the perfect ball for someone who doesn’t want to carry a whole lot of bowling balls and mostly bowls on THSs, but more traveled bowlers will still love to have this ball in their arsenal.

Length:Med

Volume:Med

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

I'm a lefty and I've got this ball set up 40x4x40. With the ball having pear coverstock I wanted to drill it to it's potential. To go long, rev up and finish through the pins. On the house shot here, the ball is very clean through the heads. It is smooth but strong off of the break point. I have not had to change the surface of the ball as the cover allows the ball to get down the lane and the particle in the ball allows is to still grab at the break point.  I actually was able to use the ball on a 45ft phase one pattern from an inside angle because the ball would get down the lane effortlessly and finish smooth but continue. This ball will be best served on house shots and any sport shot that requires you to be at straighter angles in the heads. It is a ball that will do what you want it to. If you give it more axis tilt you can give it more room and it will recover. If you want to be really straight up the boards, staying behind the ball with less axis tilt will achieve that with this bowing ball. I have not tried the ball with any surface changes, but as with other LF releases, I'm sure it takes to surface changes very well.

Dislikes: I have no dislikes about this ball. The ball does exactly what it was intended to do, get through the heads with a controllable back end motion.

LANE CONDITION

Length:

Volume:

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):
I am a new Lord Field amatuer 2 staffer. this is my first review for the Off The Chain. I finally got to throw it for a full set. This ball is amazing very clean through the heads, good mid lane reaction and a controlled move through the pin deck. I haven't thrown a ball with this kind of reaction in years. Carries just about everything. Shot 239-234-218-691. First game 8 strikes, second game 10 strikes, had a couple of splits, But great ball none the less. Changing bowling, One bowler at a time.

COMMENTS

Likes:Clean through the heads, controllable, good carry

Dislikes:No dislikes, but would get a second one and add a little surface.

Review:
The Off the Chain has to be one of the best balls Lord Field has created in their line up because they finally created a ball that is super clean up front and has a nice continuous angular arching motion on the back. This ball is definitely for medium to medium dry lanes.

I tried this ball on newly resurfaced wood lanes with a decent 40ft house pattern. i was surprised the OTC cleared the heads and came off the dry so strong. I was able to play down and in (10 to 8) or open it up with no problem (16 to 12). Even when the heads broke down the OTC still went through the heads with no issues and still came back to the pocket hard. With the factory polish which is pretty shiny i think, i can see the only weakness the OTC will have is when there is carry down on the back especially with lane surfaces such as DBA and Pro Anvil lanes. These two types of surfaces are known to be burn up in the heads and have that tough tight backs.

Next place i tested the OTC at is on worn out AMF synthetics. These lanes are known for friction. The house shot plays tricky because the middle does not have much hold and if you play down and in from out it can hook depending on the ball used If you played in and try to open it up it will not come back because it plays like its flat. The trick is to either firm up and throw it from out or move in and slow hook it.

I do not believe anyone will be disappointed with this ball. This is one ball LF can build and arsenal around.

Lets start with the truth. I hated this ball in OOB surface. For me it hit like a wet noodle and I was giving up. One final surface change to 4000 polished and presto. Best ball in my bag. Finally achieved the look I wanted for playing inside. Retained energy much better with the classic smooth hard arc off the break point. AMF synthetic and Brunswick ProAvilane were both houses use a similar THS. More oil in the middle. Although advertised as a medium ball, it it much stronger than all my LF ball except the Korrupt. I can easily tell when and when not to use. Good 1-2 punch with the Jacked (same core w/hybrid cover).

Another good piece from Lord Field.  I like to use this as the first ball out of the bag as a benchmark ball.  Very clean through the fronts and midlane with a smooth arcing motion in the back end.  This is a very good ball for heavier THS conditions and will work well on medium/heavy tournament conditions.  As with all Lord Field bowling balls I have thrown, the Off the Chain hits extremely hard.
