First experience with the Bloody Cross
« on: August 14, 2014, 07:16:29 PM »
Ok, just punched up my first ball from Lord Field, the Bloody Cross. Took it out last night for some fun in my summer league. So far this summer I have been averaging 221. I start off playing a little more direct and found the ball performed well, and finished pretty good. I did try a few things, moved in some and gave the ball room, probably covering 8-10 boards, and a couple of shots going 12-15 boards. The ball was forgiving if I tugged it, which I did a few times, and it sat in the oil and not taking off left when it exited the pattern. It also recovered good when I pushed it a few boards further out than intended. Game one I shot 246 with an open when I left a 4-9. Game 2 was clean for 247. Game three is where I started seeing some break down in the pattern and played around with some different angles, had a bad shot and greek churched in the middle of the game, but covered everything else for 197. Last game moved right some and finished with 227, for 916. Just shy of 230 for the night which is well over average. So far I like what I see with it, and wil count on it being in my arsenal for a while.

This ball has been very good for me so far too. Mine like medium to dry better than oil, but I've had some success with it on oil too. It's strong on the backend, but not jumpy. I plan to write up a full review after I throw it on a few more shots/houses.

Larry,

I too have liked what I've seen so far from my Bloody Cross.  I love my Get Some so much that I have a hard time putting it down, but when I've had the opportunity to switch to the Bloody Cross, I see a definite delay in the reaction vs. Get Some, with smooth, but strong recovery on the back end.

I have seen success with this ball even when there is carry down, provided I move away from the track and get the ball into friction at the right point on the lane and it will drive right through the carry down.

The only thing I dislike about the Bloody Cross is that everyone assumes its a Pink Panther but other than that the ball is amazing

I have liked what I have seen so far with this ball. I have bowled 9 games with it so far. I have shot 207-258-192-192-279-185-196-215-215 and am averaging 215 with it. I have issues with spare shooting with it but that is something i can work through. I think this will be my mid range goto ball as the lanes start to break down before the burn.

Which lane condition is best suited for Bloody Cross?

Is this medium lane ball?

Which layout would you recommend for this ball?

Someone told me that even though this has low RG, most lord field ball tends to go much longer than normal and therefore recommend stronger layout.  Is this true?

Thank you

John, it has a huge differential.. .051 which translates to a lot of flare..  I would say it's more for med heavy..  To keep the ball "in check" and not hook a lot off the backend I would recommend a  4.5 to 5" pin and a VaL angle of 60 to 75..

I don't remember how mine was laid exactly, but I had a smaller val angle and slightly bigger drill angle.....the ball does flare a bunch and has good length, a strong backend move. Even with the big flare, the ball doesn't slow down enough lol solid 9 is a plenty....though, The ball is a fav with a lot of bowlers...
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

I think the Bloody Cross is one of the best balls on the market today. It is my benchmark ball. I have two of them punched up identically (60.4 3/4".40) one w/1500 grit-polish (Best on THS, Chameleon, Scorpion, Viper) and one w/3000 grit-pad (Best on Bear, Badger, U.S. Open) They're smooth rolling, predictable, powerful and great to look at going down the lane.

The first time/series I used it, right out of the box (2000 abralon-sanded w/factory polish) I shot 798. Proof enough for me.

Hi Joseph..

"one w/1500 grit-polish (Best on THS, Chameleon, Scorpion, Viper) and one w/3000 grit-pad (Best on Bear, Badger, U.S. Open)"

First one is 1500 grit with polish and second one 3000 grit only (No polish), is this correct? I'm just curious how is the reaction different between the two.
With limited knowledge, I would think 1500 w/polish would be very similar to 3000 w/o polish.  Thank you

In my experience the one w/1500 grit-polish surface clears the midlane easier and snaps more on the backend than the one w/3000 grit-pad surface.
