290

This is not meant to be a FIGJAM.

I shot a 290 in the last night of the league. Nothing too remarkable about that.

But it is the 3rd 290 I have shot this year and I have lost track of how many back 11 in a row games I have had over the years but it is close to 20.

I have shot more than my share of honor scores over the years.

But I seem to shoot more 290's than any one else I know. I have also shot a good number of 279's this year as well but you have lots of frames to get tapped that one time.

Why do I shoot so many compared to other bowlers?

Do I relax after not getting the first one and the choke factor is gone?

Do I make the small adjustment needed to carry the rest of the game?

Do I simply keep my intensity up better than others once the 300 game is lost?

I don't have an answer.

in my case, this year, the first frame is usually an over adjustment of speed or angle.  I have been bit too many times after a good 10th frame with a big split because the line had broken down.  many times it is a 4 pin or a split, so I usually change my line by a board or pick up my speed a little and leave a ten pin.  Also there is the case where I lose focus after a good finish and just don't release the ball correctly.  Name a mistake and I have made it.  This year, 795 and a 290 along with a front 10 289.  Along with an open 11 bagger 278.  Not so many 279's this year.  When I leave a pin, I usually end up leaving 1 or two more during the game.  Frustrated that the lanes are easier and I cannot seem to break the big one (300/800).  BTW Last year 214, this year 226.  At 61 years old, I don't think I improved that much.

I don't have an answer.

Possibly because there isn't a single smoking gun explanation.

You're obviously a skilled bowler, which means you're getting you're share of strikes in any case. That's going to translate to bunches of 279's and 290's. Despite all the belly aching about "easy" 300's, it doesn't take much for one shot not to carry.

Don't over think it.

300s aren't easy.  Ever.  They may be easier than they could be or should be, but not easy at all.  Hitting the pocket 12 times may be easy in some houses, but getting all 12 to carry is not easy.

Congrats on the 290, I really like the new usbc 11 in a row trophy. It has to be the best award they have put out in years. We have seen the 300 rings , but they arent as unique. Keep it up the 300 is next.
