I agree with the comments about foot speed and overall timing.
If your feet are ahead of your arm, there can be a tendency to muscle the ball in the downswing to catch up. I've personally made a conscious decision to start my push away earlier and with a different reference point to get in sync. That was because until my personal coach mentioned it, I thought my timing was OK, but my pushaway was actually a half step late causing me to muscle the ball.
If you haven't considered it, something even simpler is the right fit. You want to have a good fit for your thumb and span. This way, you don't have to grab the ball in any way and it just sits at the end of the pendulum comfortably and your release can be consistent.
