advice for pba leagues
« on: November 09, 2014, 06:14:54 PM »
I've been bowling on the pba oil conditions at my center and haven't really had the best of success. Been working on my fundamentals with some of my coaches and really getting some of the things i was doing wrong down. That being said my span has changed and the usage of my equipment from all the practice is wearing down my equipment. I'm thinking of setting up a new arsenal specifically for the pba leagues. A little lost on all the new equipment thats been released so not even sure where to look anymore, anyone got advice on some equipment they've had success with?

without any info about yourgame this is a shot in the dark. with that being said my opinion is that a IQ tour solid is a must and a standard for your benchmak ball. your first transition ball can being symetric or assymetric. ive had success with things like a totally defiant or columbia bedlam. a strong ball that gets down lane more and creates more motion downlane when you have to open up your angles. your next balls are progressively high RG/lower diff. what i do also is set up my arsenal for what i see more often then a couple condition specific balls for the couple times a year i bowl on a long pattern or short pattern or true heavy oil.

general balls to look at:
fresh: iq tour solid, disorder, hyroad solid, dude, forza,
first transition: marvel pearl/optimus/totally defiant, mastermind genius, rude dude/ hyroad (hint: theres a reason its been on the wall for 6 years)
second transition:vibe/viral- cant go wrong with this core in game 3-5, lights out, blur
burn: freezes, cyclones,

also for surface i never polish anything. take it to 4000 and let the lane shine it. much more predicatable

My opinion is a big "Depends".

but i recommend the following 6 balls combo:

Any Brand:
1. Low RG high diff Solid
2. Low RG high diff Pearl
3. Med-high RG med-low diff Solid
4. Med-high RG med-low diff Pearl
5. Urethane
6. Plastic

Depending on the pattern, u gotta go with different surfaces. Layout dont really matter if u get the surface preparation correct, just get something standard like 3-5 inches pin-PAP and dont go something extreme like pin on axis or pin too near the track.

I knew I forgot something, some of my stats are

rev rate: 375ish
speed: 15-16 mph
tilt: 10 degrees
rotation: ?

I've been looking at some equipment and def thinking of the iq tour as my starting ball

It depends a lot more on your game, than equipment.  Having said that here is my tournament arsenal.  IQ tour solid, Marvel Pearl, Cobalt Vibe, Black Widow Legend, and blue hammer for spares and short low volume patterns.  I have all of them drilled pin in the grip line, either above or below the fingers.  I think the real key to hitting tournament conditions is keeping a low axis rotation ( more end over end as opposed to side roll ).  This allows you to have decent rev rate for carry without having to cover a lot of boards.

Also, if you don't already do it, use your spare ball for everything but double wood spares.
