Getting on staff
« on: September 16, 2008, 10:26:29 AM »
I see people all the time on Storm staff, Hammer staff, Vise staff.

Question is how do you go about doing that?  I know Storm makes you do a resume and video, but what about vise?  JW

My buddy with front 8: "Me too!"
Me: "Yeah, but yours both have arrows on them, and an arrow in between!"

Staffers represent the company and promote the equipment.  Do that.  Be successful with their equipment and make sure people believe that your success is due to their balls in your hand.  Let people know that you believe their equipment is the best stuff on the market.  Hope people start buying that equipment based on your visible success.

If you own a pro shop and can directly influence ball sales, more power to you.  Promote that equipment first when someone asks what ball they should get.  Every company offers balls at all different price points and for all different levels of bowlers, know which equipment is appropriate for which bowlers.

The actual procedure varies, but that's what staffers do in general.  Positive local faces for the company.

Then the only trick is being the one guy in a thousand who does all of those things and actually gets picked to be a staffer.

And remember, if you do get their balls in your hand... you can ask for whatever you want and they won't say no

Ask yourself why they would want you on staff.  Do you own a pro shop?  Do you finish high in LOTS (I'm not talking 2-3 a year) of tournaments?  Are you a "people" person?  You can be the best bowler in the world, but if you're a total douche, no company is gonna want you because you won't be good at promoting their product.

I think all companies have the same basic procedure for getting on staff.  You put together a resume showing why you would be a good addition to their staff.  If you're REALLY good, they'll come to you, but that doesn't happen often.
