WHAT I WISH THE BALL COMPANIES WOULD DO...........
« on: September 02, 2004, 02:49:56 AM »
I wish so much they would publish a C.O.F. (coefficient of friction) scale of the balls they manufacture.  That would assist so much in trying to figure if Storms Accu-Tread is more or less aggressive than its Monsoon as an example.  And when one mixes and matches ball companies it would assist so much in cross comparisons.  I now ABC has a C.O.F. scale so why not give us the information.  If coverstock is 75% of the reaction it would help so much.

They have a negativity in publishing this info for some reason.  It would help so mush in the confusion areas such as Particle Pearls and Resin Pearls that at times are more aggressive than their solid counterparts.

Just my thoughts, yours?

That would be nice.
I think it would be nice if they all gave a determinator spin time also.
I think that Track has the best ball specs format. Everyone could just adopt it.

Good idea Nod,

I'd also like to see a breakdown in particle balls, % of particle and size.  This way we also get a comparison as to what we see with each introduction.  The coined terms like "Monsoon" don't tell me anything, I have to call my rep for each intro to see how strong the covers really are.

Where do you folks think you are going to get bowling ball mfgs. to agree on a standard?

Confusion=more sales.

I'm a custom clubmaker and if you think the amount of bowling balls brought to market every month/year is something to try and figure out....then check out the number of steel and graphite plus other materials of golf shafts in the market place.  Plus there is no standard.

The most educated bowler is the one that will figure out what he/she needs better than one that is not educated.  Not saying anyone here is not educated about bowling technique, lane conditions or equipment.  That's where this site helps in so many ways.  I've learned oodles from many bowlers plus others here.

now if abc could test for rolling friction instead of dragging friction, that would be an interesting #.

Couldn't they do this with a setup where they could hold the ball and spin it while it is resting on a treadmill type of set up and then see how much weight has to be applied to get the treadmill to start moving.

Who says the ball manufacturers have to publish this info?

on edit, I meant to stress the words "ball manufacturers".  I mean, why can't somebody else publish the info, preferrably a nonprofit 3rd party that isn't influenced financially from any of the ball manufacturers.
