Have you ever bowled a team that has no understanding of bowling etiquette, equipment, or proper bowling technique, and they are all coast to coast hook with no skill, and they crush your team by like 200 pins because they carry low averages so whenever they bowl 200+, their handicap total goes through the roof?

I now have.

Our team has been moving up in the standings, I posted a few weeks ago about the communication issue we had, but I have stepped up my game and been averaging around 205 the past month or so and we are no longer in last place.

Last night's summary:

1) During practice, we were all bowling 1 shot (like you do in tournaments).  They bowled 2 shots.  Sometimes 3 shots I kid you not.  They would pick up my spare instead of resetting and then throw 2 more shots LOL!

2) Wore sneakers instead of bowling shoes.  Where is the league secretary when you need her?  Oh yeah, probably the same place where my USBC membership money went...

3) They blew us out bowling 70 pins above their average PER PERSON in game 1.

4) However, I knew they couldn't pick spares when they are throwing it from 30 to 5 and back to pocket.

5) The next two games they had trouble breaking 100-120 and we won that and total pins.

Probably the sweetest victory of all times.  :)

---

I still have an issue getting strikes.  I left the 4 pin 6 straight times in my second game and only ended up with 580 with 215 last game.  I had only 3 opens and they were all sleeper spares and splits.  I made another split.  My spare game is sick.  Other bowlers watch me in envy as I basically roll the ball straight over the finger holes down on the same 1-2 boards.  Ball literally doesn't move off the same board.  Only cross maybe 5 boards on 10 pins now.

Some victories ARE sweeter than others.  For a variety of reasons, we may not have the same motivation for every opponent.  Glad your night ended well for you.

P.S.  I've always figured that over time people will bowl their average (or close).  If they bowl great on the fresh, then it's safe to assume that they are probably not so dominant as the lanes change.

It would have been easy after game one to cry "SANDBAGGERS" and give up, but to just keep rolling the ball your way proved more effective and should give you a boost of confidence next time.

Yeah.  If they won that second game the same way, I would have flipped out haha.  But I knew something was off because I kept looking at their averages and looking at their scores and was like "this can't last".  Also for some reason my house uses the worst oil of all times.  It lasts maybe 1 game at most.  By game 3, if I am still playing around the same area which this summer league has been around 7-10 board with a slight swing to the right, I need to hit 20mph+ on my strike ball or it will just hit high.  I am planning on getting a Pitch Black soon so I won't have to do this.  I do have a Recharge which is drilled with pin over finger tip bridge, polished, and is a reactive pearl, but I don't like the way it hits.  Seems to hit flat a lot (if I maintain the same speed as when I use my Vertigo).  All I know is that I've never shot spares as good as I am right now ever.  Rolling over the finger holes is the way to go.  I've missed 1 single pin spare the past 12 games now.

there is a guy on one of my summer leagues (mixed handicap) that has shot the following for game 1 the past 3 weeks: 298, 300 298
but he has yet to break 600 for a series

He has a wicked shot on medium fresh oil, but once that is gone he is done.

Haha!  Sounds more extreme than what I saw last night.  But yeah some of these guys know how to throw the ball one way.  Watching them attempt 10 pins is hilarious.  At a certain point, they don't even try.  They just throw their strike ball and miss the 10 pin by a good 2 feet lol!

So one team had a lucky game that they're probably still talking about, but overall the better team won. Everyone had a good time and left happy. Sounds like league bowling is operating as designed to me...

Well tonight was interesting lol.  I had 23 strikes and a 669 including a 236 first game and a 235 last game.  In my 2nd game I had 8 strikes (most of the night) but only 198.  I chopped the 6-10 spare twice in a row hitting the 6 pin and then hitting the 10 pin.  I also missed a split.  I think it's the lowest game I ever bowled while throwing 8 strikes in a game.  My average keeps increasing after being away from bowling for so long:

July 2016 League Average = 203.583
August 2016 League Average = 208.167

Some people even came up to me tonight and gave me props and ask how I hit the pins so hard.  Kept using the Vertigo (IMO the best ball Storm ever created) all night and just kept moving left and increasing speed.  By the final game, my ball speed had to be 22-23mph.  The sensor on the right lane even started malfunctioning.  Can't wait to collect some money at the end of the summer season and buy a Storm Pitch Blue.

Your adventure with the 6-10 spare reminds me of a night I had about 2 years ago.

I kept chopping the 10 off the 6 (I know), and after the third time my teammates started to call it the 6-10 split because I couldn't cover it... ;)  When I finally covered it they gave me a standing ovation.

Well I never could make it tonight LOL.  Probably cost me a 700 series.  The straight ball went too straight lol.  It basically went over the 1 board the entire lane to hit the 10 and then over the 8 board or whatever is lined up to hit the 6 and not the 10.

Spares cost me another 700.  Had 2 opens total and both easy spares.  Bowled 687 tonight with a 243 second game which started off with the first 6 strikes.  Had 22 strikes tonight.  We were actually losing the second game when I was on pace for a 300 game.  Talk about frustrating lol!  I should hit 700 next week and a possible 279 or 300 game.  The day my Vertigo breaks is going to be one of the saddest days ever.  10+ years and still makes other bowlers watch in awe.  I guess having a 20mph strike ball helps hah.

FWIW, most of the leagues that I've been in (NJ and FL), we threw the two shots in practice (only 1 if you strike).
