BallReviews Chat [Thanks for the support!]
« on: May 26, 2007, 04:03:43 PM »
A BIG thank you goes out to everyone who has exercised patience during the dreamhost.com debacle over the past 72 hours.

Right now I'm in the process of finding a hosting company to house the chat.
There is one issue I'm having, and thats finding a host that will allow chat scripts to run.

So while I track a company down to house the chat, it has been moved back to my home box for the meantime.

Use the link below to login to the chat, I saved all the accounts that were signed up on the dreamhost site, so you can still login even though the site was moved.

Also, if you have any suggestions for hosting companies that run Windows 2000/2003 server boxes with PHP/MySQL and either Apache or IIS, and allow chat scripts please let me know.

If you cant remember your password before logging in the first time, PM me, and ill retrieve it for you from the database.

Thanks again to all who have made this project a successful one.

Enjoy! [obnoxiously large link to follow...]

This is the reason why this needs to be hosted.

A transformer blew in my area, but the chat is back up now.

the chat is up at the moment, but if we do get a brown out or a blackout, the chat will be unavailable.

Power has been up and down since everyone in the neighborhood started using their air conditioners after work yesterday around 5PM.

Please be aware, right now I am working on getting the permanent website (http://www.bowlingchat.net/) back up and running again, I dont have a release date, but it should be very soon to help eliminate this availability issue.

I will be sure to have the site ready to rip this time, not rush into it.

How bad are the outages? Or are they just brownouts? Have a UPS handy you can stick on it? I'd recommend it anyway because the power supply on that computer does not like those power fluctuations.

I have a UPS but the batteries are old and not holding a charge.

I'd rather use the money to put towards the permanent website than new UPS batteries.

Outages are typical house outages, could be 5 minutes, could be hours.
BUT, when the power comes back on, I have to PHYSICALLY turn the server on.
