groin pull
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:50:12 AM »
My, my what fun. Pulled a groin muscle last week, the pain
is now discomfort so it is getting better. Question is, if
you have had a pull, how long after the discomfort went away
did it take to return to bowling. I have not bowled in over
a week, next week is position round and we are 2 games in front.
I would hate to let my team down by missing next week, but don't
want to return too soon. All comments (and jokes) welcome.

Phil

Depending on the extent of the pull, a week to heal is all you might need. Definitely stretch, treat with hot and cold, and take some pain reliever. Bush's advice is also great for testing your injury.

Try using a pair of Neoprene shorts. Put it into google or Ebay to find some.

Worked for me when I had problems with my hip should work for groin strains too. Also even if you dont want to start until all feels good again its still a bit of support for the area. May help stop it going again.

They are a little expensive unless you have an old wet/dry suit laying around that you can cut the bottoms off.

hope it helps.

Wow judging by my knee and wrist thing...  How are those shorts going to smell after a round of bowling?

I pulled my groin last weekend while learning to snowboard.  I had to bowl that weekend so I took lots of pain pills.  I am finally walking "normal" again.  I try to stretch and warm things up slowly and it seems to be working.  i'm going to do what bush suggested before I bowl this coming Monday to see if "things" are ok.

Plenty of deoderant and strong aftershave do the trick . Much better than tearing everything again if you ask me.

I understand the theory about the neoprene, but depending on the severity of the pull...a calmer solution of simple compression shorts may do the trick just as well.  Not the expense of a neoprene short and basically what you are trying to accomplish is support and warmth...which compression shorts were made for.  The one's I use I pick up at Dick's Sporting Goods for about $10/pair.  Just my .02.

I had a sprain on my pushoff leg in league once last year. It hurt somewhat but I lived. I used a wrap on it and then was better.I t didn't take that long to heal. I guess it wasn't as bad as some other cases. Didn't even compare to my quad strain I pulled 7 years ago that lasted 2 years off and on on my slide leg. That was horrible.

Second amen for Compression shorts.  I'd taken 3 months off from bowling due to change in schedule at work, then when a charity tournament opp came up, I had 2 weeks to get ready.  Even though I stretched before what was to be a normal practice session of 8 games, later that day I realized that if I had the opportunity, I shoulda done a 3 or 4 game block over a couple of days.

Took an old pair of compression shorts I hadn't used in almost a decade, which were one size too small -- which made for a totally different set of distractions while bowling, and did rather well with not near the pain that I had been having.  Of course, I also had taken 3 Alleve an hour or two before bowling in the tourney, so that helped also.
