12 # strike ball.
« on: March 23, 2005, 02:33:23 PM »
I went to practice the other night and just for fun decided to use my 12# plastic spare ball for 3 games and shot 650. I had way more accuracy and triple the revs than with my 14# equipment. Of course I left my share of 5-7's and 8-10's due to defelection, but hit the pocket every time.  So now im thinking if I had a stronger ball core and cover wise I would take those 5-7 and 8-10 out ? Any comments or suggestions before I go out and purchase a 12# reactive or particle ball or do you think Im wasting my time and money?

My girl friend throws a green monster pearl and a menance as strike balls, all 12 pounders with "real" weight blocks. There is no carry problems if the speed and rev rate can meet well.

i think you should stick with the 14 pound equipment. when i used 12 pound stuff i left lots of splits. when i moved up to the 14 pounds my carry went up and so did my average because i diden't leave as many splis.

How tall are you? How old are you? I mean, if your younger (11-12) I could understand throwing light equipment, but if your older then that, I think 14# is what you should stick with. 12# will still carry with a dynamic core, but your going to have to be DEAD ON every shot. Light shots will not carry well at all, and heavy shots will leave odd things. Truthfully, I think 15# carries the best out of all weights. But if you can't handle 15#, at least stay with 14#. In the long run I think it would be a waste.

Thanks for the replies, Ive thrown 14-16 # and can handle any of them just seemed to be more accurate with the 12# ball
