Other Peoples Lanes
« on: March 24, 2005, 12:15:42 AM »
I was just looking at some vids that I've got from here, just playing them all randomly...

and I noticed that there are a few people that after releasing the ball, stray far across into somebody elses lane, either going backwards(diagonally) whilst watching , or just walking sideways to watch the reaction of their ball a bit better of something...

How many of you guys actually do this in league.. come on, that would really piss me off if somebody did that.

Its usually called running out a shot, and yes it is very annoying.  It is forgiven if the person is on a big string or shooting a big game, but there are many who do this every shot.

About the only thing to do besides giving the person warnings is to just wait until that person is walking off of the approach.  It really is not worth risking a bad shot because someone else wants to make a statement on the lanes.

We have a guy that does that in my tuesday night league...really makes the other bowlers mad...last week he was on the pair next to me (he's a lefty) and I noticed that after he rolled every ball he ended up halfway in my lane....So I thought I'd teach him a lesson...I'm 6'4" pushing 285, and when he delivered his ball I ran up and grazed him...scared the bejesus outta him

I do this sometimes, I've been a fairly animated guy since I bowled college.  In college it was common for guys to run shots out 3-4 lanes.  I was making a run at all tournament team once, missed by a few pins, and I ran a shot out one lane.  Well one of the guys on the lane I ended up on cried about it.  I just laughed and walked away.  I saw him at the end of the tournament and he was still ticked off.  It's part of bowling and being on the C team he hadn't gotten much experience with it.  I figure if guys can complain about not getting 2 and 3 lane courtesy, then I have the right to run out a shot every now and then.

we have a wrong footer on our league who is notorious for going into peoples lanes.  He's right handed and finishes on his right foot but after his delivery he always take a huge step to the right and watches his shot from the next lane.  It's extremely annoying.

I've been guilty a few times of crossing into the next lane, but it's usually reserved for a big shot or big score.  On the other hand it doesn't bother me when someone else does it.  I never start my approach until both bowlers on either side of me have left the approach.

Running out shots is like crossing the railroad tracks.  Do it a hundred times with no problems.  Meet the train at the crossing one time, you'll never do it again.

If the lanes r open to either side a couple pairs then do w/e the hell u want.  I remember i was bowling like crap and there was a bunch of like 6-7 yr olds wit bumpers even if they hit the pins they would scream, well i couldnt hit the pocket the whole game do to carry down and burnt heads well in the tenth i threw the first strike then i screamed and jumped in the air and theni got the next one and on the last shot i told my friend boris that if i got the last strike i would run it out and do a cart whell well i got the strike but the cart wheel wasnt good.  And i only ended up wit a 170

i run out shots sometimes, not excessively, but every now and then i will.

i've only ended up on another pair if theres nobody bowling there, otherwise right lane i stop at the gutter cap, left lane i stop at the ball return. it only pisses off the people who cant repeat shots enough to actually have something to run out...

You can keep telling yourself that, every time you run out your turkey.  Just keep off my lane as I go for #8, ok?

Bob Hanson might remember this.  There's a guy who used to bowl the local club (IEBA) tournaments.  If he was the last to finish (or if everyone to one side or the other had finished) he would do the flop.  Throw the ball, take off running one way or the other, dive, and slide on his belly across maybe 6 lanes.  Funny as he!!.

(Bob, was that Jimmy? I can't remember now, but seems like it was.)

I never stray from my lane but I know a couple of people in each of my leagues that do- and if I'm bowling next to them I make a mental note of not stepping up on the approach until they are on their way back from their shot. I'm not good at stopping myself midstream and they would be liable to get a 15 lb ball somewhere in their body, so I take the initiative to put in that preventative measure.

And to me, the only shot you should even remotely consider running out is the 12th frame if you have a 300 going....but I would prefer the more understated, staying in my lane way of doing it.
