center heavy core heavy oiler help needed...
« on: May 22, 2005, 07:35:20 AM »
I was discussing what was needed in my arsenal and upon trying some different inside lines as well as hand releases, my bowling coach noted that I am in serious need of a heavy oil ball where the core is concentrated in the center of the ball. He mentioned something like the Titanium series of cores in the Columbia line. Any suggestions for balls either in that line for heavy oil or something from any ball manufacturer? Right now I have an Animal for heavy oil, but he mentions that for my game playing deep inside that ball can struggle to make the turn.

It was fun trying to play deeper inside (crossing 24 and not getting the ball outside of 15 at the breakpoint- a challenge for my normal down and in game) as well as suggestions when the shot is drier and you need more length out of the ball (different finger and hand releases for both...).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't something like the Storm Atomic Charge or Super Charge be pretty well suited for what you're looking for? The weight blocks both seem pretty center-heavy (especially the Atomic). I myself have never really been too fond of the "Reactives that hook as much in oil as Particles" that have come out recently...but I do know a couple people that had decent success with the Super Charge on floods. As for the Titanium weight blocks from Columbia300, I'm not sure if you'll find one for heavy oil, but if you can get your hands on a Columbia300 Reaction ARC, I think that was pretty center heavy, and I absolutely killed with mine.

Matt,

I'mnot sure your coaches request is valid these days anymore. A center heavy, i.e. low RG core is no longer a requirement for a strong oiler given some of the current crop of coverstocks currently available. The Lanemasters "Guaranteed" is definitely a heavy oiler and its RG is 2.61.
http://d225652.hostwerx21.adwerx.com/products.php?ball=02,
Legends Yeah Baby! at 2.62,
The Track GP2 will also handle a good bit of oil with an RG 2.57,
Brunswick Goliath's RG ranges from 2.55 to 2.59 and it handles a lot of oil.

Columbia's Titanium cores, as much as I love the Messenger Ti series, do not currently have a ball that will handle oil as well as the above balls, that I recall right now. The Primal Rage was their last heavy oiler that I recall with the Ti nugget, circa 1997.

Ok, plain and simple. Go to the V2 balls. The cores in thoes balls have core density, and correct me if im wrong, the V2 sanded, The Strong/R and the new power are all made for med-heavy

If you're looking for a center heavy core, the Solid Uranium Buzzsaw is about as center heavy as it gets, with it's 2.45 RG. =:^D
