Title: 14lb spare ball?
Post by: Belgarion on May 06, 2003, 02:21:45 AM
I am currently throwing all 15lb equipment, and wondering what may or may not happen if i go down in weight for a spare ball?  I currently throw my spares 19-20 mph with a 15lb but maybe a 14 would be able to be fast but more controlled?  What do you guys think of this idea

My white dot is 14#.  The rest of my equipment is 15#.  I went to 14# for my spare ball so I could generate a bit more speed and to get some deflection for baby splits, etc.  I dont notice any problems in going between the two weights and I even used the 14# as a strike ball one night (had 5 out of six for strikes) when I was having problems with my resins.  I would be curious to hear from others on this.

I just switched to 15lb. strike balls 9 months
ago, but still carried my 16lb. White Dot for
spares. Found that I was suddenly having trouble
covering 10 Pins. Spoke to my Pro Shop guy about
going to a 14lb spare ball.He told me some guys
may have problems covering spares going 1 pound
lighter.Some guys don't.I found a 14lb. White Dot
on Ebay cheap. So I had it drilled up and tried it.
I love it. It's easier to throw and I'm more accurate
with, compared to the 16lb. White Dot. Being lighter,
throwing at your normal strike ball speed should be fine.
I say try it!

I throw a slower shot on my spares, so lighter would give me the undesirable temptation to increase my speed. I got a spare ball so i could throw slower and still have much less hook.Plus it is a good thing not to be able to tell which ball is which just by the feel of your hand, to promote consistency. I know that doesnt apply much to person with slower spares, but you never know sometimes.

I use a 14# TargetZone for my spares on the right. For me it provide better accuracy. I throw between 15-16mph with a 15#, but with my 14# at spares close to 19mph.

Dizzle,

Are you planning on rolling that 10# at the 10 pin or throwing it? Like overhand?

LOL, I would need a mechanical means of delivering it on target, like maybe a UAV.  (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)  Bombs Away!

Well, we'll just have to develope the technology to damage the pins and leave the lanes undamaged.

If I threw a 10# ball it would have the speed of the Peach and the deflection of my little brother on bumpers!

If I could only pick up a 7 pin.....

Wow, that could mean a lot.  So, how far can you throw your brother? j/k
