Use the 16lb ball but don't switch back and forth between 15 and 16.. It could throw off your game.

I went from 16 to 15 back to 16.  If you can generate enough ball speed you'll be fine.

Just don't try and muscle up and throw the 16 harder.  Let the weight of the ball and gravity do it for you....they'll do a much better job of getting ball speed than you can.  Just stay smooth and throw the ball.

I throw 16 pound stuff, but have experimented with a couple of 15 lb balls over the past year.  For me, I find they carry equally as well on flush hits.  The difference is in light hits.  I feel that the 16 lb stuff carries better on light hits because of that little extra weight that transfers into the pins....moves them around a little better.

I use both 15 & 16. Brand new and used.

Used to be exclusively 16, but over the years when I've wanted to buy used (for some experiment for which I didn't want to pay $200) it's been mainly 15's that were available. Not quite sure why that is. Does no one trade in 16 lb balls?

Anyway....I find that most of the time, there's not much difference. But I do seem to get away with more bad hits with the 16's. That would be a plus, unless you consider that it could also make me sloppier or lazier in the delivery.

Contrary to most, who advise not to mix and match, I've found that if I start tiring (not so much from the bowling, but from a long day), switching from 16 to 15 gives me a little extra energy and sometimes revives my game. And other times, if I'm overthrowing the ball (too much energy), switching to a 16, helps me get my timing in sync.

Most of the time, I still choose which ball to throw, based on the lane conditions and whether I think it matches up well at that time. The weight is only a secondary consideration.

It's not that no one trades 16lb balls it's because so few people shoot 16# now.  About a year ago, my driller didn't think twice about why I throw 16lb but just last week I was looking at some used balls (all 15s) and he asked why I still throw 16lb?  His comment "No one throws 16lb anymore."

Well, I still like my 16's, no matter what the masses are doing.

Am in my 50's, so am not against the gradual conversion of my arsenal to 15's (some day I'll probably want to go to lighter equipment). But for now, I see no urgency to get rid of my 16's or buy more 15's. Not fighting it, but even if for no other reason than getting my money's worth out of the 16's, I'll keep using them.
