15 or 16 lbs
« on: March 17, 2010, 10:26:34 AM »
Has anyone tried to go to 15 lbs from 16 and gone back? I have tried 15 lbs for a year and fill that I do not have the control I had with 16.

I just went back to 16# 2 weeks ago after 8 years of throwing 15#. Prior to that I threw 16# from 1972-2002. I went back to 16 to improve my carry and it does carry better. Surprisingly to me - I actually gained ball speed! Less flat 10's and an overall improvement in confidence. I'm sticking with 16# until my arm falls off or something else breaks.

i personally go back and forth on 15 and 16, 16 when i play straight, 15 when i hook it

my center always lack of backend

when is effin dry, everything reacts early, so i cut down revs, and go straight with weak and shiny surfaces

when lots of oil and carry down, i need the ball to tip, thats when i go to 15, but lately its been oily with carrydown, so only 15 for now

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I was throwing 15's for about 2 years and went back to 16's about 2 years ago. I was fighting with carry and over turning the ball so I pulled out one of my 16's that I kept and shot 300 the first game with it and have never looked back!

I did.  Went from 16 when I was in my teens, to 15 when I came back to bowling in my early 20's and then after a year, moved back to 16 and haven't gone back since.  As long as I'm physically able to throw 16's, I'll be throwing 16's.

I am 32 years old, and I have thrown 16lbs for the past 15 years.  I just have gotten used to the timing with 16 lbs and tried to throw 15 but I loose my timing and throw it too hard.

Interesting you raise this topic.  I just posted this article on my site if you're interested.
http://tamerbowling.com/?p=29
It's doesn't exactly answer your question, but it talks about 15 vs 16 lb.  It may contradict some other comments here, but it's a thought nevertheless.
It would be good to know why you do not have control with a 15.  Do you feel like it's too light for you?  Have you changed anything in your delivery since you switched to 15?  Did you change the tempo of your delivery?  A lot of things can affect control, not necessarily the weight of the ball.
Ultimately, there is no harm switching back but it would be better to understand why you are having trouble with control first.
I know some bowlers who switch back and forth also, but I am definitely not a proponent of this.  If you have trouble with control, that's one way to ensure you don't get it back.
You might want to try videotaping yourself and have a look with your local pro/pro shop operator.  It might be a simple adjustment.
