i no alot of people just say its only a pound but for me it made a huge difference. I threw 16 for about three years and was starting to have pains in my wrist. I've found that since switching to a 15 that i have began to bowl better and that it doesn't take as much of a tole on me as the 16's did. It wasn't really all that hard to transition to a 15 and i found that my pin carry was not affected by the weight loss.

I'm 45. Switched to 15 for 2 seasons and switched back to all 16s this year. I don't see a huge difference, but IMHO I leave fewer tap 8s and 9s with the 16. The reason I switched back is that I am just more comfortable with that weight. Use whatever you're comfortable with. If your arm is tired after league....lower the weight. Otherwise go for whatever feels better in your hand.

Don't argue with an idiot people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I'm due to turn fifty this month (hopefully I'll make it), and I started using 15lb equipment about a year and a half ago.

I've found that it is much easier to throw 15lbs without getting eventual fatigue in my bowling shoulder/arm.

I also find it quite easier to turn the ball.

But every now and then I switch to my 16lb equipment as I find it to definitely have a more authoritave hit.  It's not because15lb equipment doesn't hit hard (it does), but I just seem to enjoy watching 16lb balls crashing the hole and annihilating the pins.

Basically, if I’m going to be shooting in a tournament where there will hopefully be many games to bowl, I choose 15lb equipment as I know it won’t wear me down.  But for league or practice sessions, I use whatever I feel like for that particular day.

I'm 46 and have been using 15 for about 8 years. Immediately my average went up about 20 pins. Most guys will release a 15 lb. ball better than a 16. More revs with less effort, as well as less wear and tear on the fingers, wrist, shoulder, etc. Advances in cores and coverstocks have also helped.

If a bowler would release a 16 as well as a 15 he should stay at 16, but the vast majority of bowlers don't. Out of all the balls our shops drill, MAYBE 5% weight 16 lbs.
