Typical League Bowler with a Short Memory
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:25:09 AM »
Here is the setup.

Our Team swept last night. first time in a long time

First game we won by a lot. I didn't bowl well (30 pins under), but rest of team did great for the win.

The other team made a push in the final frame of the 2nd game. Their total pins were in the plus column as they finished the tenth frame. Their anchor goes up and throws a strike, eight, spare. Seemed confident of the win. Our 3rd and 4th bowlers finish.  Our total score is getting closer but still was displayed as a minus. Our anchor gets up (working on a double) and throws strike, 9, spare for the win. Won game by 4.

The anchor on their team was shocked. The look on his face was priceless. So we go on to 3rd game. By the seventh frame it looks like they are going to pass, but we pull it together as team. We start matching them strike for strike. Their anchor was not too happy about us keeping up with them. Instead of getting in the spirit of competition and having a game go down to the wire. He is displaying disbelief and we are the luckiest team on the earth. So he starts shaking his head on every strike we throw.

I finally contribute to the team with a Strike on first and second ball in tenth. Second ball went right of my target.  I knew it, so he makes the comment "WOW that was 3 boards right!" Like I was lucky to get that break and shouldn't have received the strike. I would agree with that statement, however he and his team had thrown a lot of sloppy strikes all night.

I turned around and stated "At least they were not brooklyns", in reference to his double early in the game that were both brooklyns. No comment. Rest of my team finished strong to take the third game. Again he is acting like we got lucky breaks, yet he forgets all the bad shots that his team made that were strikes.

I swear that the THS is worst thing to ever happen to bowling. In my opinion, every year,  there more guys who think they deserve the strikes they get and everyone else against them gets lucky.

All I will say is let your bowling do the talking.  If another team talks trash, and your team or you resond back verbally, everyone looks like idiots.

I can't say that the THS is to blame for this guys attitude.  Some people just have that attitude no matter what the sport/activity.  The fact of the matter is EVERYONE gets breaks (good or bad)  My opinion especially in league play is to go out and have fun with it.  Being a scratch bowler I use league to warm up so to speak for tournaments, whether it be trying new equipment or tweaking my game.  I wouldn't worry too much about it, at the end of the day it is only league and if you were to keep track the breaks (good or bad) will usually even themselves out.

I see it every week from 2 guy's on my own team. They bitch that every one carries the crappy hits but they get screwed  all the time.  I did not here them complain when one of these 2 bowled a 300 with 6 strikes that where total crap but that is ok.  It is a shame that there are a lot of people who bowl but do not know the game of Bowling.

Yes let your bowling do the talking we had quite a few guys like this on our men's league years ago

the guys who are house bowlers but, think their Pro's, we had a solid team, as these guys would take

themselves out of the game by making 1 or 2 poor shots, they would start thinking too much.  I think

what really aggravated these bowlers is that we were laughing, cutting up, drinking beers and just

having a good time, nothing over the top mind you, and still kicking their tails. Looks like they couldn't

figure it out, Hmmmm People can laugh, cut up, have fun and still win... Heaven forbid...

It's has been said before, but I will repeat it. This really has nothing to do with THS. This bowler's attitude just sucks. If you were bowling 150-160's on a PBA/Sport pattern, he'd still be complaining because your team went high and didn't get a split will they did, etc. There are bowlers who get it, and ones who don't. And they won't change if the shot gets harder.

Agreed.  What does the THS have to do with this clown not wanting to give his opponents their due for winning the matches?

Don't believe in the Uzi, it just went off in my hand.  I, I believe in love.

I agree with some of the others on this thread. Blaming THS for this type of reaction is totally wrong. What did the lane condition have to do with it? I've been bowling for 40 years and these type have guys have been around during that entire span. I have always loved how they only see their opponents fortunate pin fall. Last night I probably threw the ball as badly as I have in a very long. Twice had brooklyns for doubles. I wouldn't have had the gall to comment on a lucky hit by a guy on the other team. But sometimes the pins fall your way and other night you get kicked in the rocks a number of times. That's bowling!
