As for how to "Learn" to put your thumb in, you have to do it the same way the rest of us did, PRACTICE.


Since you are in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, you have incredible resources available to you. I took lessons from Rod and Theresa Ross when they were still in this area(Central Valley of California) and it was money well spent. Rod might not be available for private lessons now, but Theresa probably is and she is a fantastic coach.

In this day and age, watching youtube helps a lot, personally. The biggest thing for you is going to be timing- clearing your thumb fast enough but not too fast. The actual release and imparting revs into the ball should be the same as your previous release.

Your approach also has to change, so probably best to start with drills.

You can see on youtube. Smallwood palms it actually. Closer to Tom Daugherty. His thumb is facing forwards (not back).

Can’t figure out why anyone that could physically bowl without their thumb would want to change to a conventional delivery...that’s like a left hander wanting to bowl right handed so I can only assume you hate winning.
