43' flat (2:1 ratio across the lane). I tried playing outside on the pattern the first week we played this shot and I couldn't get a decent reaction. My first attempt was up the track area, but it overreacted. Outside of 10, the ball skidded all the way and came up short. After playing different balls and different hand positions and failing all the while (shot 138 for my first game on the 43' pattern), I decided that the outside wasn't going to work. I moved way right, put the ball between 3rd and 4th arrows with a little side roll and promptly shot 224-201 to manage a respectable 563.
This week was just a continuation of last. My carry wasn't so good in the first game, so I had to fiddle around with speed and hand positions. Once I locked onto what I needed to do, things started going smoothly (to the tune of 667).
We have one more week on this pattern before they change it again (we change every 4 weeks). Likely the new shot will be between 39' and 43' - my guess is that we will be on 41' with a little less oil. I have a game plan for such a pattern; we'll just have to wait and see.
