20 frames----yeah right
« on: February 03, 2009, 09:33:55 AM »
I bought this ball off ebay. Listing said EXCELLENT condition, LESS than 20 frames on it. I say 20 frames out in the parking lot maybe. What do you think?

I did. Asked for full refund. He didn't respond so I filed a claim with paypal. He then said he has sold lots of balls in the same condition and no one ever complained. Paypal comes to the brilliant descision to refund my money less the original shipping cost IF I pay to send the ball back to this jerk.

I've seen that sort of wear after 15 games on really, really old wood lanes that were replaced the next year. Under normal wear and tear, I'd guess that ball could have had 150 - 200 games with ever having been resurfaced.

Could be 20 frames on very badly maintained wood house. Had a wooden house here that would require a resurface after every set. 4 months into the season the house closed down.....lack of bowlers.

Similar scratches could be inflicted on a ball thrown at my local house for 15-20 games or so, especially if your rev rate is 300+.  The wear and tear that looks to be either belt marks or small gouges by the thumb hole tells me that ball was thrown at a pretty badly maintained center though.

How the previous owner managed to get scratches INSIDE the thumbhole is beyond me. The direction of the scratches on the surface indicates something in the ball return or externally did it, those scratches should not be in anyone' track, I wouldn't think.

sometimes I notice sellers that list a low game ball like that.makes me think they picked up a used ball, throw it a few games and try to resell it as "under 5 games on it." I don't buy without some good pics.

Those scratches ARE the track.  The marks going around the thumb hole are probably caused from a machine.  The scratches inside the thumb hole are from working it out by hand.

98% chance that is more than 20 frames, 20 games, 20 sets.....  How much did you pay for that ball?  Are you going to throw it as is, with his grip in it?  If not, you can get it resurfaced as part of the plug work.  It may be worth keeping, instead of losing shipping money.  What kind of ball is it?  Storm.......
