Split Adjustment
« on: February 04, 2009, 05:08:45 PM »
Okay last week in my Wednesday I leave the 4-10 split in the 9th & 10th frames of game 2.  I open with another 4-10 split and some other split in the 3rd frame of the 3rd game.  At this point I take off my glasses and decide to bowl without them.  i didn't want to SEE the splits.  Surprise, no more splits and I finish with my high game for the night.

This week I am working on a new release and am doing well.  One of the guys from the opposing team comes by and asks why the glasses are on.  I told him I was doing well, he looks at the monitor and agrees.  Fast forward to game 3.  I open with 3 splits in a row.  He again comes by and I told him it was almost time to remove the glasses.  Another split in the 5th and off come the glasses.  A strike and zero splits the remainder of the game.  I pull out a 166.  I should have taken the glasses off sooner.

So the new adjustment to get out of splits is to not be able to see

I've said it before, staring too intently at your target is just as bad as not looking at it at all.  You're probably more relaxed and not trying to split boards when you reach the point where you just say "screw it" and take off the glasses, which is why the ball suddenly starts coming off your hand better.

I think you are right.  In fact we had this conversation last night.  I bowl a 2nd shift league that is supposed to start at 9 PM, but usually gets going around 9:15 - 9:30.  Game 3 starts around 10:45 or so.  My friend said I may be focusing too hard.  As I get tired, I may begin to focus harder on target.  Once the glasses were off I told her she was probably right and without the classes I can't over focus.  Rather than a 3 board area it becomes a much wider area.

She asked what board I was hitting, I told her somewhere around 10, + or - 5
