2009 Ohio Inter City Tournament Review
« on: April 26, 2009, 11:56:35 AM »
I just got home form bowling in the 98th annual Ohio Inter-City Bowling tournament. This years event was held at Cedar Lanes in Sandusky, Ohio.

I went into this tournament not expecting to much as I had not bowled in almost 4 weeks. I'm not going to use that as an excuse though as most of the time this tournament is on the THS!

Team Event Lanes 35-36

Saturday was team event. We draw the end pair, lanes 35-36. I new it was going to be trouble even before we started bowling. It was warm this weekend, and quite warm in the center before we even started. Then I noticed the overwhelming smell of chlorine. I then remembered there is a water park attatched to the bowling center/resturant/bar.

The lanes were in horrible shape in my opinion. The lanes are wood at Cedar Lanes. They looked like they had not had a goood resurface or screen/coat job in quite some time. The heads were absolutly beat up, looking like someone was pounding on them with a hammer.

The machines ran bad as well. It took us 3hrs 18min to complete 3 games. The pair next to us was only in the 4th frame of their 3rd game when we completed our set due to more poor running pinsetters.

Scores on our squad were quite low. I was high on our pair with 213-191-245-649. I was amazed to score this well, as lane 35 had about a 4" gap in between the 3 and 6 pin. It was so hard to strike on that lane, and I witnessed on guy leave the bucket with a 10 pin. The lane condition was hooking extremely to start, but if you tried to get it to wide, it wouldn't show. As you bowled, you had to move right about every 3 frames as the lanes tightened up. I threw my Code all 3 games, trying to hook it the first 2, then finally firing it up 15 the 3rd game.

Doubles and Singles.

More of the same, lanes extremly hooking to start, then tightening up drastically as you bowled. We were on 27 and 28 today, not moving pairs after doubles. Once more on this pair, more pinsetter issues. The 8 pin on lane 28 would keep falling out of a full rack, and the ball return quit working for 15 minutes, as well as several ball calls. It took us 4hrs to bowl 6 games with 6 guys on the pair!

I threw my Break S75 all 6 games today, minus about 3 shots the first game where I threw the Code on the right lane. I started in around 25 at the arrows, ended up at about 12 at the arrows by the end of the day.

More of the same scoreing wise as well, not enough strikes, and a couple to many 2-8-10 combo's. I will say I was 15 for 15 at covering the 10 pin this weekend.

Team= 213-191-245=649
Doubles= 199-225-179=603
Singles= 217-280-169=666

Bowling Center Review (Cedar Lanes) 5 stars max

Lane Conditions= 3 stars

The shot was ok, you just had to know when to move

Staff= 1 star

The staff was very rude, slow to react to situations, and acted as if they didn't care if we ever came back.

Food= 1 star

Food and beverages were extremely expensive. The food was not very good, very grease.

Equipment= .5 star

I have never seen a bowling center with as many 180 stops, deck jams, ball calls, and other pinsetter issues as I did this weekend. This place needs to take a good look at their maintenance program and come up with a new system.

Value for the money= 1 star

$20 for my wife and 6yr old son to bowl for 1hr.
$2.50 for a 16oz Fountain drink
$3.50 for a 12oz can of PBR!!!

I know that Sandusky is a resort town, but couldn't they wait to start the price gouging until the resort opens for the season??

That's all for now, I'm really sore from bowling 9 games this weekend, but I had an ok time. Ended up $25 ahead for the weekend in brackets.

Bowled in Inter-City in March. Team on 5-6 (which is really 1-2 because they have lazer tag set up on 1-4) and singles and doubles on 27-28. I would agree that I was disappointed with the bowling center. We had to ask them to turn off the fog machine from the lazer tag because it was drifting onto our lanes. I started off with a 140 game in team (way to deep/ no carry) but finished up with a 580 and felt decent going into doubles and singles. Used Street Rod Pearl and shot 620 doubles and 734 singles. Had a good look and wished I had my 140 game back.  Overall, bowling alley was average and looked old at best. I enjoyed tournament and did well in brackets.

Ten of us went in March.
Not a single one of us had a good time.
The furniture was the only positive thing I experienced there!
