How do you adjust?
« on: January 18, 2013, 08:18:13 PM »
So here's my issue. Game 1 is almost always my best game. This wouldn't bother me if it was say, 220-210-220, but we're talking a difference more like tonight for instance, 247-185-227. Not cool.

I never used to have the problem I'm facing now, and honestly, I'm out of ideas. One week I'll try to move slowly inside, feet first and mark if I have to, and my carry suffers. The next week I'll try to speed up staying with the same line, but then my accuracy suffers. I'm at a loss I guess. I know I'm probably over thinking this, but it seems like as soon as I see a slight change in reaction, I either go overboard or don't change enough.

So my question is...how do you do it? Is it a ball change that works for you? Is it speeding up? Changing your release? Just trying to see if there are ideas that I might be overlooking to combat changing conditions. Thanks in advance!

Matt

Oh and btw, if you couldn't tell by the scores I posted, typically I figure something out by the third game and it's like I come out of the hole I dug myself the second game. Maybe the shot comes back to me. ugh. lol.

On a THS in league I normally just move my feet and target left if need be. I am normally farther left then anyone else on my pair. (so I dont normally have to move more then 2-4 boards in a night). My normal starting point is standing on about 30 hitting 14 or so at the arrows to about 6 or 7.

Do you normally have to move left a lot during a night? Some times when you move farther inside you need a ball that is more angular to get the carry.

Matt,

If you're a tweener like many of us, on house shots, you can have extreme problems during the transitions mostly because there are so many varied deliveries and type of balls being used by many people. You're not way outside with the strokers and you're not way inside with the crankers.

So each week, the problem during transition may be different. You have to watch who is using what kind of ball and how it is affecting the oil pattern. Some crazy people are using Nanos and are burning the crap out of the track area. Some older or very inexperienced people or some one who wants super control may be using plastic or urethane and creating carrydown. It can be different every week depending on who is bowling on the pair with you.

On my own team I have one guy who fires it up 7/8/9 all night long and another who uses an oil sucker. So, often by the 3rd game, I'm using a ball like a Tropical Breeze (Or similar) between the 3rd and 4th arrow,
"None are so blind as those who will not see."
