Title: 2014 Hoinke Bowling Tournament
Post by: dR3w on July 08, 2014, 11:14:08 AM
Has anyone been to the tournament this year?  I'm heading up in 2 weeks and was wondering what the shot was like?  They typically don't paste information about the
shot, so I was just wondering if anyone had some comments on it?

Thanks

A bunch of guys from my area went in May and told me they were hooking out of the building.

Thanks Born2bowl2 ... that would be great. And good luck this weekend!

Brian Green - Thanks.  Do you know if they were on the fresh?  If I recall, not everyone has fresh.

I bowled it back in April and they were hooking a ton.  There was more room outside than I have seen before there.  I bowled mostly on the fresh.

Well….here is my experience:
They oil 3 times a day – before the 1st squad / 1:30pm / 6pm.
Bowling on the fresh was the most challenging for me because the backends hooked so much.
I played around 15 to 5 with a polished Hy-Road. I left a few washouts and 2/10's when I got the ball outside of 5. Carry was also a big issue…..left more 10pins than I can remember.
Bowled terrible in singles.
652 in team and 705 in doubles (triplicate 235's) and 30 clean.
There is a $5 "30 clean" pot that is run by the bowling alley. You will need to sign up before every squad at the Welcome Center. It pays off at the end of the tournament.

Thanks for update.  Seems like pretty good scores for a tougher shot.  Did you bowl on the fresh for all events?

I looked at that already but it doesn't tell me much about the format is it a 4 games singles? With 3 games of doubles and 3 of team?

From when I bowled several years ago, yes. 10 games ... 4 singles.  Move right after each game.  Handicap is based on a composite 3 year handicap (I don't know the details, or exceptions)

Correct.....3 games in singles & doubles and 4 games for singles.
They use the highest average in the past 4 years.

A few years ago, it took over 1200 for 4 to win Singles.

Yes, you read that right.

Our state tournament went to 100% of 230 about 5 years ago.  There have been several 900 series … so no, it doesn't surprise me at all.

I can remember bowling the "Dutchman" tournament in Eastern PA back in the day. It was always fun to walk in and see the high Singles series as 900+ and realize that as a scratch bowler you literally could not win Singles even if you happened to throw a true 900 series.....talk about depressing.

This was about 10-12 years ago.  80% of 210 I believe.

Needless to say the international sandbagger contingent found another victim.
