National Bowling Stadium, Reno Nevada
« on: July 27, 2006, 05:28:51 AM »
Hey fellow bowling lovers,

I am planning a trip from Birmingham, England to Reno in Nevada for a holiday. Looking to go around November this year & staying a hotel that is close to the Bowling Stadium & take one ball in my current arsenal.

I was wondering if anyone has been to the Stadium & seen for themselves what it was like? Is the Pro Shop any good?

Thanks,

I was in Reno about 18 months ago for an aerospace conference and asked the guy in the Reno Hilton pro shop about the NBS.  He said it wasn't generally open to the public, certainly not for open play.  They didn't even have leagues there, only tournaments.  You might be able to get in for a tour, but I don't think you can just show up with your ball and a pair of shoes and expect to bowl.

The alley at the Reno Hilton is quite nice, though.

You are correct, there is no open play at the NBS.  If you are there between November 2-5 or 9-12, the Storm National Mixed Championships will be taking place.  It is an awesome venue and the pro shop is huge.

Appreciate the advice guys.

Just in case the bowling stadium isnt open to the public, are there any other great bowling alleys in the USA which are near to great places to visit. I'm going with my buddy, so its not all about the bowling if you know what i mean.

Cheers,

I would look at going to Sam's Town or the Orleans in Las Vegas.

Both are good facilities plus all the other amenities of the town.

As mentioned before the stadium is no tavailable for open play but I bet you could easily find a spot in the tournament.  I was in town just to visit last fall and I was asked to bowl.

The pro shop is open even when there are no tournament.  Ask for Mark Anderson he runs the shop.

Other bowling vacation spots -

Vegas- Orleans, Sam's Town, Texas Station, Gold Coast to name just a few of the casinos which have bowling centers.

Dallas - Don Carter West, Dealey plaza for you Kennedy necropheliacs.Do not know if the poker tournaments are still going on in the bowling center.

Orlando / Sebring Florida - Kegel training center. Disney.

To name a few.

Cheers!!!!
