251.8 avg.....15 yrs old
« on: January 17, 2004, 12:23:40 PM »
Western NY has it's share of top youth, past and present. Recently Ryan Ciminelli and Lidsay Baker (Tom's neice) have gotten some good ink around the states. But here is a kid to watch for........

Erik Westfield, age 15, bowling for Maryvale H.S. (last years State Champs) averaging 251.8 after 5 matches in 4 different houses! Last week 275-770, Monday 284-785. His low set was 712 so far.

His brother Cody is a freshman bowling at Erie Community College. I have watched both of them, as well as Baker and Ciminelli most of last summer at the teen shootouts, and now this year as well during H.S. matches and the Travel League where my son bowls.

This kid simply repeats and repeats shots! A lot of fun to watch, and a genuinely nice youth too!

What an achievement.
Its nice to see that through dedication and he must be truly dedicated, that anything is possible.
Long may it continue for him and maybe he could improve that ave a little more

LMAO @ LuckyWrongSider

To everyone else that wishes him well I shall pass that along, as he almost quit bowling this past fall! Surely it will mean a lot to him. We all know that he probably won't maintain a 250+ average throughout the High School Season, but even if he ends up 230+ that is still an accomplishment for a 15 year old bowling in a multitude of houses, and on shots that are not THS for the most part!

As far as Track798, you still have not posted your "internet findings" that you claim in discrediting this youth. There are links that I HAVE posted verifying the statements. Did you just pull "facts" out of the air? What is your motive? Please inform me and the other members of the BallReviews community?

If anyone is interested in how his season progresses, such as State Regionals, etc., let me know. Some already have, and I will update as I find out.

Till then, the best to all, and may you carry those corners.

PS...congrats to TheDude!

More power to him, he sounds freaking awesome to bowl that well!

Hopefully he will continue at that level for a very long time.

251 average sure is something you do not hear much about.

Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

Just curious, does anyone know what kind of ball he uses?

TrackBowler89 I do not know you, but it is nice to see someone else that has seen Erik bowl verify that he does have tremendous ability, and that it is not "easy" conditions that have created his scoring of late.
My CONGRATS to you for being part of the Maryvale H.S. Team last year and the State Championship! Seems Maryvale and Erik just edged out Grand Island at the Festival of Lights this year (my son is on GI H.S.).
If anyone doubts Erik's ability, take a little vacation out our way. We are very hospitable, and have a plethora of bowling centers and weekly tournaments.

It's gotten to the point in bowling where anyone anyage can ave. 200 or more after 1 or so years. I'm not being cynical but kids that bowl awesome are a dime a dozen it's not even fun to hear scores anymore because bowling has become a f'en joke. Hey I shot 750 well little timmy turner shot 812 again. Yeah

THen quit bowling if you don't like it. Nobody makes you go to the lanes and throw the ball. I'ts a shame that jealousy can run so hard in someone so young.

Trackbowler thanks again, we do welcome all to our area to bowl, sit back and enjoy a good time.
All parts of the country, and world, ahve put out some great bowlers. We here are fortunate to have had Jim Schroeder, Allie Brandt, Nin Angelo and his son Brad (2003 PBA ROY), The Coburn Family (Cindy), Tom Baker, Jack Jurek, Joe Ciccone (2000 PBA ROY), Brad Kisczewski (99 PBA ROY), Liz Johnson, and a host of others like Bruce and Doug Heim, Fran Bax, etc. etc.
So, I guess it was the "easy conditions" that exist that has created these individuals.
Please, anyone that doubts, or wants to just have a great time, join us. We have many weekly tournaments, and a fantastic time!

reborn righty, you now have the honor of being the first ever ball reviews member to make my ignore list. I can put up with stupidity, I have done it here on many occasions from guys like superman and cornholio, but you are such an  arrogant azzhole that I can no longer stand to read anything that you might post. You're jealousy of this young man is so obvious it's dripping from your posts. By the way, what yard sale did you current arsenal from? ARSENAL: 3-DOT CLASSIC,HUGGER,MANHATTAN RUBBER,BLACK BEAUTY,MUSTANG,MARK X,ROTO-GRIP 5 STAR (DICK WEBER EDITION) AND GYRO-BALANCED

Hmmm, Reborn Righty you "EARNED" those two rings. But you, in a post that has mysteriously disappeared now, ASSumed Erik was bowling on a wall. Well, if the other thread had not vanished, those here could see some other interesting comments. Again, I will debate all day long the changes in the game over the years. Truth is I could bring up quite a bit from the other post, which would do nothing more than solidify this young man's accomplishments.

Something that should be said, and deleted, was an open invitation to one and all to WNY for some good bowling hospitality. Along with a chance to see Niagara Falls, enjoy some REAL Buffalo Wings, and fantastic bowling at many many wonderful bowling centers.

Reborn Righty, I did read your post, and if you want to continue to debate issues, please reload with some facts, like I did in YOUR post that you deleted.

You "EARNED" those rings, whether you feel you "deserve" them is your perogative. But I can say without hesitation, that if when you shot those Honor Scores, the majority of bowlers here would be congratulating you, not "dissing" what you rightly did. Secondly, they would have not "ASSumed" you did so with an easy shot.

Having bowled in the 70's at Erie Community College under Kerm Helmer, and having bowled with and against so many "greats" since then in the Cleveland area, and here in Buffalo/Niagara Falls, I have seen tremendous changes in the sport. (Not as many as Sawbones of course)

The biggest problem is not the technology of the balls, not the lane conditions, but with bowlers themselves! If we want this sport to receive the respect and recognition it deserves, we as bowlers need to have pride and integrity. Not to degrade it and it's participants. Sure the game has problems, there were problems with "hi scoring" and debates as to it pre civil war! There were problems with "loaded" balls, tilted lanes, flat shallow channels, plastic "bleeder's, etc. etc. But the biggest problem comes from within the Bowling Community! Why be a part of the problem? Be part of the solution!

Shame that so many have to always see a glass half empty!
