I have read about Doc's magic elixir and have a question/concern as i do not know everything about covers of bowling balls or this elixir.  My question is this.....upon reading about the elixir i see that it says that the elixir chemically bonds the coverstock together to keep from oil seeping in.  Now i would think bowling ball coverstocks are made in a certain way that makes them do what they are supposed to do on the lanes.  Wouldn't this "altering" of the coverstock by bonding it together more make the ball's reaction different from what it is supposed to be?  Like I said i am by no means a guru on coverstocks or elixir it is just a question that crossed my mind.

But hey the idea of it is that is that the oil cant absorb into that ball, so if there no oil going into the ball, it will last a long time and not go "dead" like most ppl say.

If you put doc's on your ball you can do a little test by putting a little vegatable oil on it and it just beads up and rolls off. thats how you know it works.

Iketown300 - The Elixir's main purpose is to slow down and virtually stop oil absorption into the coverstock thus increasing longevity of these ever increasing bowling balls.  It does not really alter the characteristics of the cover prep that much.  However this really depends on the bowlers style.  Rev rate, speed, axis tilt and rotation you get the picture.  What most people see is a cleaner movement through the heads so the ball retains more energy and then the ball can rev up easier and have a stronger finish on the backend.  

Think of it this way.  When bowlers first start off at the beginning of a gaem three things can happen.  The condition is too wet, too dry or just right.  If the condition is too wet the ball never reaches the pocket so you have to adjustto get the ball moving earlier.  If the the condition is too dry you have to adjust to more oil to get the ball down the lane.  If it's just right you can stay where you are.

The problem arises when the lanes begin to breakdown.  for instnce the pocket is holding up well and the track line begins to dry up and the ball begins to expend energy too early.  the ball may still reach the pocket but then you begin to get flat 10's and such.  This occurs by the ball picking up the oil off the lane and absorbing it and also carrying it down the lane.  Since the Elixir doesn't allow the ball to absorb the oil and the oil doesn't really stick heavily to it the tends to stay in one place longer making the shot stay in one place.  Meaning you won't have to adjust as much throughout a set.

In the case where people see extra length that can usually be brought back by taking the cover down a notch.  This also helps when there is carry down and tames down the over/under that a lot of bowlers experience.

Many users on this board use my product and I thank them all.  I use it on all my equipment and none of my equipment has died yet.  Most people see the greatest benefit on particle balls but it works well on all coverstocks.
