I shot 300 on November 12, 2012. I received my free ring. I filled out the application at http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/usbcongress/bowl/awards/pdfs/2012-2013-applications/High_Score_Adult_Youth.pdf to get my ring. Now that I used my one free ring, I can't get a 299 ring for free. As a matter of fact, it appears that I can't even order my 299 ring using this application. Don't tell me I can't get one, because there's one here: http://www.keepsakebowling.com/Template.mvc/StartConfig/1287 The only thing is I need a way of getting this 299 game to list on bowl.com. So my thinking is I fill this form out and check the box down at the very bottom "No Award" and submit it to the local USBC office like I did for my 300 game. Then I order online from Keepsake as you see in my other link.

USBC will have your score because the league secretary still sends in all of the information. There is no free award but you can still call more then likely to pay for the additional award. You should get an 11 in a row award. They look pretty good this year.

Just to be clear, you shot a 300 in November and got a ring, and now you shot 299 thereafter, right? If that's the case, you're entitled to one of the 11-in-a-row awards. You should be able to select the crystal award or plaque for the 299. FYI though, you USBC doesn't issue rings for 299 or 298 anymore. That's why you are seeing a charge for them. Even if that had been your first award of the year, you'd still have to pay. They simply leave the option of paying for one up to you. In any event, the path of least resistance would be to call 800-514-BOWL and talk to someone in awards. They should be able to get everything squared away for you. Congrats on the multiple honor scores.

The ring is not free at all on a 299 anymore....even if it is the first honor score of the year. It's considered an 11 in a row award. Thank your proprietor and USBC for ridiculous soft conditions that have ended those awards.

Just another way your USBC has found to cut expenses. When the number of scores being shot went into the upper stratosphere, USBC found they could no longer afford to give away that many free rings, so they discontinued everything except the 300 ring, but tried to limit that to a once-in-a-lifetime award.
Last I had heard, they had not succeded in those efforts yet, but who knows?
Oh, by the way, congrats on the great bowling.

I don't see the big deal with removing the 299 and saying it was 11 in a row because it will say the score that I got in the game for that 11 in a row. If you think about it, you shoot a 299 and get 2 honor scores where a guy who shoots 300 only gets one honor score. My only complaint is that the USBC makes this a bit confusing.
And yes I fully understand that the 299 and 298 you have to pay for regardless if they are the first of the season or not.

To help clarify this just go to BOWL.COM -- go to - membership - then to - awards, it will explain everything you need to know about rings, plaques, achievements, etc. Then you will know that you only get one free ( unless you opt to upgrade) ring for your first 300 for this season. one award for 11 in a row. There are no rings for 299 or less, that is an 11 in a row award. Bowl.com will explain all of this in detail.

http://www.keepsakebowling.com/content/brochures/honor.pdf shows 299 and says 298 is also available.
Maybe Keepsakes needs to update something?

In my opinion all awards should be paid by the bowler. If you want a ring or trophy then get it yourself. That additional money could go to something more important, like youth bowling, and growing the sport.

OK I called keepsake so I could find out the truth --- USBC will not offer a free ring for a 299 - 298 -- but the individual can order one for him or herself for $69.95 from keepsake - additional cost for 10k or 14k upgrade. USBC only offers 1 free ring for your first 300 of the season, any 300's after you can purchase them. You also get one award free for an 11 in a row from USBC, per season. I was unaware that you can purchase 299 - 298 rings if you so desire.

Yea, this is the way it works. After receiving my year 2012 300 award, I received a crystal award for a 290 (11 in a row) shot a few weeks later.
It is what it is.....

I do get the crystal trophy for 11 in a row for free. I can also purchase my 299 ring for a fee. I'll take the free trophy and buy the ring for $75.
