Title: 299?
Post by: TonyinPortland on April 21, 2016, 10:07:47 AM
I know a couple years back USBC changed the award structure to give only the first 300 & 800, as well as 900 as the only awards you can receive at the national level.

I was looking at my record on bowl.com recently, and they still list 11 in a row and 299s from previous years.

I had a 299 last week.  Although I know I will receive no 11 in a row, or 299 award, will they still post the 299 on bowl.com, as they did before?

No one had me fill out any special sheet, or anything, like you used to do.

Just curious?

I had a 299 earlier in the year followed by a 300 a couple weeks later.  The 300 is on bowl.com, but the 299 isn't.  Could be a case where my secretary didn't submit the 299.  I think they would still put the 11 in-a-row events on bowl.com.

Congrats on the 299 - Unfortunately, there are no more submissions for 11 in a row. It's not even listed on the new honor score forms, nor is it an option in Winlabs (the USBC software system), so a league secretary can't even submit it if they wanted to.

I had a 299 3 weeks ago. It will not be listed because it is not considered an achievement anymore. Not only do you NOT get the 11 in a row trophy, they dont even list it on the website.

The most you may get is an 11 in a row award from your local association.  That is provided they chose to do that.  Thankfully our local association decided to still recognize it and give us a plaque for it.  Got one about a month ago.

That seems strange that it used to be worthy of recognition, but now it is not.  I'm talking about listing it online.  I have enough chintzy awards, that's OK, but I find it strange that they would list other 299s or 298s or 11 in a rows, but now not list them.

Years from now, when we look back on all this, I doubt I will remember the year that they decided to stop listing them.  If it was considered good enough to put on then, it should still be.

Our local association still gives out a lot of stuff.  A teammate had a 290 and he got a knife, which is what they give out for 250+ games.

Yeah, awards just aren't what they used to be.

I remember back in the 80's the tough house in town would give $1 per pin over 250.

Best I cashed in there was for $30, on a 280 game.

With scores inflated now, a place would go broke with that deal.

I'm glad the 11 in a row honor score is gone. You can literally throw it in the gutter first two balls on the first frame then punch out and can get an honor score.

You can throw a few in the gutter and still an 800...
