Well if you have still them at out of box finish and based on manufacturer's description:
Theory - 2000 Abralon . Coverstock description: Insight™ - Designed mainly for longer Medium Heavy to Heavy oil conditions. The Insight™ coverstock features reaction tuned technology to blend the perfect combination of performance and durability, giving the ball an unprecedented Mid-Lane read and continuation on longer, difficult patterns with higher volume.
Critical Theory - 4000 Abralon. Coverstock description: Designed for Medium to Heavy oil conditions. Insight™ (Pearl) - This pearlized version of Insight™ creates an amazing amount of dry-lane friction, but the addition of pearl allows this ball to glide through the fronts allowing for an explosive backend reaction.
I think you have two balls that might be too strong for the condition you are bowling on. Based on your statement of not able to use them very long.
Polish will help but, as someone else stated on here, it might not have the affect you are looking for. The only thing to do is try it. Only you will be able to determine if it works or not. Most of us on here have done lots of experimenting with coverstocks.
If you don't like it just have it sanded back to original surface.
