NO Thumber's
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:49:57 PM »
I am new to the site so please excuse me if there is already the same topic. But I am a NO Thumber Bowler and I use to have a 187 avg. but I took the summer off and no since I started the fall league I have dropped bad to a 157. The lane condition where I bowl are mostly dry on some occasions it is medium. I a 16 lb. Monster Green and Black and a 15 lb. Track VooDoo. on the super dry days I use the track I do OK but the track doesn't seem to have the power the Monster does when it hits the pins and leaves me high and dry like the lanes. I don't know whether or not to get a new ball, and if so What should I get to fix my problem. If anyone can help Please feel free to leave me some info.  Thanks....

Shawn

I was looking at a couple of the different Brunswick Power Groove but how do I know which one to get. I have been looking at the Yellow/Chrome one. Is that the one I should be looking at. I see that it has a little bit longer length on it than my Monster but I am a little unsure on which one to get.

That would be one of them. There are actually a couple of them. As long as you see Power Groove Reactive. The next thing to think about is drilling. Unfortunately it would be best to have someone who has seen you bowl or knows more about your game to give you suggestions there. What works for me, probably wouldnt work for you. Alot of people when looking for length would put the pin above the fingers or in between the fingers (for more control). I cant put the pin above the fingers because my track is inverted (real close to my fingers and real far away from the thumb). So if I put the pin over the fingers it rolls in the track and rolls stupid. If you have a more normal track you wont have that problem. Again, someone who knows your game better would be better at giving you suggestions for drillings.

Remember the PG Reactive will hook. We were just looking for something to give you added length which I think this will---without sacrificing carry.

I have offers to sell me a 15 lb purple/green power groove. I also have some one offering me a 16 lb Blue Ice Power Groove. But Should I go with one that is new or used?

Its really whatever you want. The ball is pretty inexpensive new, so if the drilling on the 2 used ones isnt going to work, you would have to pay for the ball and then pay for plugging and redrilling.

As far as weights go...thats all up to you. SOMETIMES when people use lighter weights they think it will not hook as much when it fact they may actually get more hand into the shot and have a harder snap. For me, I do usually have my dry lane ball a pound lighter---just what Im comfortable doing.

I guess if I were to choose one of the used ones, I would choose the 15lb. Throwing NOTHUMB does have its advantages too. If the fingers are even close to fitting you could try throwing the balls before buying them, just to see if they will work for you. Now if the ball is owned by a lefty and youre righthanded that wont help you. But otherwise, you could at least compare it to your current stuff and decide if you like it.
