300 game not submitted to association
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:30:18 AM »
Back in April I shot a 300 game in a sanctioned league.  I had the good fortune of shooting another one the next night in a different league, different association.  I recvieved my (final) 300 ring, understanding of course I was only getting one.  My wife wanted to get me a customized ring commemorating how many perfect games I have, but we found the first one of the two consecutive was not turned in.  I called the center, and they said to call the secretary, that they had nothing do to with it, which I'm sure is true.  I've called the secretary, and gotten no response to my voicemails.  Do I have any recourse to this? Is there anything else I can do, or is it just gone forever?  Thanks for the help.

I would make a call to your local association.  With a few keystrokes from the center where it was bowled to retrieve your scores for the night, and a few witness statements, they should be able to do for you what the inept and irresponsible secretary did not do.

They can also have a meeting with that secretary and make a "course correction" because secretaries are not supposed to be paid at year end until all paperwork has been submitted.

Honor score papers are supposed to be submitted within 20 days of them being shot.  Since so much time has passed, the local association really needs to get involved so this so-called secretary knows he/she is being watched.

Certainly contact the local association, especially if you have documentation you have attempted to contact the secretary with no response. They generally get the task completed in a timely manner.

If you are a full time paying member of the league where you did not get the ring in a timely manner - the fall seasons are quickly approaching. You could mention during the vote for league seats about your experience.

The secretary is a paid position, if they are not satisfying the qualifications they should be removed.

For those of you stating to remove the secretary. In some parts of country finding people that want to be league officers (especially secretaries/treasurers) is not easy. Don't be so quick to jump to have this person removed. People make mistakes. If you bowled a 300 game and its on record. There should be no problem. It might take some time.

I agree that there seems to be a shortage of people who want the secretary job, but if someone agrees to do the work, gets paid for doing the work, and then ignores attempts by the bowler to rectify the situation; that secretary should at least be reminded of their duties by the local association.

Many league secretaries do the job year after year because no one else will do it.  That doesn't give them permission to "not care", as it seems in this case.  Honor scores are still important to the vast majority of bowlers and should be treated as such.

I had a similar situation several years ago.  I shot 300 on the last night of bowling as a sub.  The secretary eventually submitted the paperwork.

If I could chime in, I would first send an email to the association secretary and explain your situation. Your association secretary should be able to do an awards application in lieu of your league secretary doing it. If all else fails, send an email to: MA@Bowl.com. They handle awards for USBC. I had a similar situation but with an 800 and after emailing USBC, they were able to help me out. Surprisingly I had email traffic within 24hrs.

If a person excepts the job, they need to do it and do it right.
I'm sure if it was their 300 award, it would have been taken care of.

Thanks for the help everyone, the 300 was shot on a regular league night, and I think I'm going to give one more call to her on Monday, just so I feel I made every attempt to contact her, if I still get no response I'll go to the association, thanks again, glad my wife was looking into the ring, it may have never been caught otherwise.

Maybe the pay is great in your area. Not in mine. For all the yelling, complaining, and time put into this position. The pay does not cover it. Most Bowling Leagues I see have become a group of lazy people. You can't find officers. You can't find someone willing to understand the rules. Then you have a vast majority of league members that believe the pay is awesome, yet have no idea how much money the secretary gets. I could have robbed my league blind when I was secretary. No one was interested in knowing what I did. Just take care of it and don't bother us.

Dealing with most league bowlers is like dealing with a 2 year old. "I want my honor score reward NOW!".

Everyone! Take a deep breath. It's bowling. Mistakes are made, if someone is not doing their job, discuss it with them. Don't be a jerk. Corrections can be made. If things mean that much to you, then get invovled.

In this case, a secretary not wanting to get back in touch with the person. Its summer. I know I wouldn't want to be bothered.

I get it. There are people that should not have the position, but also why is your league voting them in.
