300 game stories
« on: January 22, 2009, 11:33:16 AM »
does anybody have a funny story about their first 300 (or any 300 game)...for example a poor series or followed by a terrible game...

my first 300 (and only one so far) was in a local singles tournament with a top prize of $1,000 where you bowl 6 games and keep your best 5 bowling on a different pair each game...my first game was the 300 then followed it up with first 2 strikes second game, nice split open, and banged out for a 262, so 800 is a definite possibility, only to follow that game up with a 161. following that game i throw a 279 so i really hate myself for that 161. then after that throw another 160+ game and follow that with a 234...well lets just say i placed 3rd in the tourney winning $200...i lost out by 4 pins!!!! 4 pins was the difference between $200 and $1,000

My 2nd had a good story.  I was on a date with a chick for the first time, and since we lived far from one another, our meeting place was a bowling alley.

We bowled a few games, and my first game I shot 300.

No HJ, No BJ,nothing.....we dated for a few months after that, but I mean come on...it was a 300!!

I don't know if it's more funny or more sad, but my first one only netted me a 626 series.

I will add that it was 2 weeks after a 6-month deployment however.

Lol, I had about a 180 somthing average when I bowled my first 300 back in 1990 using a Teal Rhino. The lanes were oily the first game and I shot a 165 but finished the game with a turkey. I shot the 300 game in the middle...I was so nervous that I got brooklyn's for the first and second shot in the tenth. I relaxed after that thinking no matter what I would have a 290 game (wasn't even thinking 300) and I threw my best ball of the game for the last shot. Back then it was a big deal and there were probably about 30 people standing behind my lanes. I was so pumped up, I ran back, whacked my knee on the ball return and kinda collapsed back in the seating area. Talk about heart pounding! Even though my knee was killing me, I threw the first three strikes of the next game but between the alcohol and the lanes drying out I ended with 167 game. So I only ended with a 632 series but to this day, the 18 strikes in a row is my best run....
My second 300 game (just last fall) came 18 years later and was alot more relaxing and subdued....oh and I threw good shots for all the strikes and had a much better series (757)... =)

Not my first 300, but I had one that I just couldn't miss no matter how bad I throw it.  I carried a 4-7-9-10 domino style during that game.

A blind man can shoot 300, we have a 162 average bowler who throws the ball 13mph and drops it before the foul line shoot 300 2 weeks ago. So I believe the only true honor scores left are 800 and 900.

My wife came to the bowling alley with me because our beloved cat her best friend suddenly died the night before and she did not want to stay home alone. She cried off and on for days. Anyway I was using a black polished particle groove that has something serious goofed up inside. The ball flares the wrong way. Anyway somehow I managed to throw the front 11. I was so nervous because she never saw me bowl a 300 before. I was on the approach thinking to myself throw one for Tigger. I threw an awful shot way left but a high brooklyn carried so I bowled a 300 game for my wife and cat. We got drunk after that, and pretty much most of the next day.

I know somebody who bowled a 300 without shooting 600.

This isn't me - but...
I know of an older lady in town who shot 300 in her senior league.
After the game was done, and the excitement died down, she turned to her teammate and said "maybe now, someday, I'll finally shoot a 600 series"...

She'd never had one - and didn't that day, either.

This is about as funny as it gets for me.  My second one, the last one I bowled, was during no tap bowling.  I didn't get a single 9-count for three games and I bowled my highest series of 756 too.

was he left handed? because that would explain it...j/k

either way a 300 is still an honor score, because it takes some nerves of steel to complete it (at least with all "good" shots), especially if it's the first one!

My first 300 was funny, I had the front 11 and after the 11th strike, my ball got stuck in the pit and I had to wait probably all of 5 minutes for the ball the return, people standing aroung everywhere and I finally get the ball back.  Needless to say, I pulled the s##t out of my last one for a brooklyn strike on the 12th ball.  After that I went on to shoot a whopping 157 my second game and then got it back together for a 269 my last.

well this one isnt about my 300
but about a guy in our mens scratch league
anyways
he starts off with the first 5 and his girfriend walks in
and starts yellin and screamin at him like ive never seen
shes sooo mad as she found out he was cheatin on her.
so he goes and bowls # 6 comes back and she starts in again
and next thing u know shes starts beatin the crap out of him . he ends up with a bloody nose and his face all scratched up meanwhile the whole time he keeps throwin strikes and ends up shootin 300. something ill never forget it . it was like each frame was a round in a boxing match. lol

my first 300 was in a high school match. in the 9th frame the opposing coach sat next to me and kept saying "You ever done this before? must be nervous, would hate to leave a ten pin right now huh?". i struck out, but my team still lost by a pin, ONE PIN!!!!! the other team (these are 4 man teams) avg. 245. i thought it was quite funny

I would have lost it on the coach.  Trying to play mind games with a kid bowling for an opposing team...thats pretty low.

On monday, the guy that owns the house shot 300 his last game.  He had spent a lot of time that night on the roof of the bowling alley clearing off snow and ice as the roof had developed a leak.  Then he comes in a shoots decent the first 2 games and then shoots 300 the final game....with 2 domino strikes in there for good measure.
