300 or 800 which would you rather have ?
« on: July 22, 2011, 02:30:31 AM »
I almost got my first 800 last night and am still looking for my first 300. Since my brother got his 300 last year, my mom is always saying you'll get your 300 someday. I don't think people understand that the 800 is almost better than the 300. I might want the 800 first, but would gladly take either. Any thoughts ?

Without a doubt I would rather shoot a 800 over a 300 because anyone can catch fire for one game.

800 of course. I've seen 150 avg bowlers "stumble" into a 300 game and not even shoot 600, but 800 takes more than luck.

I've got both.  I took more pleasure in the 8's than the 3s.  However I know how hard the 800 is.  Most league bowlers though look at the 300 as perfection.  800s mean you misssed some shots to them. (????)

Two of the houses I used to bowl at in Illinois payed you $300 for a 300, not a penny for an 800 though.

I've shot 800 twice in 40+ years of bowling. Much harder than getting a 300..

I was fortunate enough to shoot my one and only 800 the night I shot my first 300......been waiting over 11 years to shoot another 800.  LOL.

The 800, for me, was much harder to get and was more satisfying.

800 I find is more of an accomplishment than a 300.  I have multiples of both and the 800's have been more gratifying knowing I was able to adjust to the transition of the lanes and conditions.

800 because it is 3 really good games. With a minimum of around 28 strikes to do so of a possible 36 max.

Be good, or be good at it.

800.  Because luck is much less of a factor.  Anyone in any given game can get lucky for 12, but luck alone will not get you 28+.  Especially those last 10 frames after you do the math in your head from the first 2 games.

I'm sure it will be overwhelming in favor of the 800.

The 300 has some mystique as it is a "perfect" game.

But the 800 is at a much lower percentage level and I believe most who have done both would say they are prouder of their 800.

I've had a few 800's and I'm still amazed that I happened to carry that well for an entire set. The thought of carrying 36 for a 900 is something I can't comprehend.

The 800 means you really bowled well all three games.  Massive figjam alert!  I got my 800 the same night I shot my first and second  ever 300's back to back.  Really should have just hung them up after that.  Got my third 300 but the second 800 is elusive.

I remember my 803 series.  There is "less pressure" as people have poor memories and don't do the addition of where you are during the night as far as series.  There was a very limited number of people who came over to watch.  The 2 teams bowling each other know, but most of the league does not readily see it.

A 300 game everyone stops to watch.  Never thrown one, but I've seen the people get nervous with everyone stopping to give them lane courtesy.  Almost does them more harm then good.

As far as minimum # of strikes for 800...I believe it is 24

9/  X X X X X X X X 9/9   = 268  (Do this 3 games and you have 804)

I am very proud of my 800.  Would not trade it for the 300.  Will just have to wait a while longer.
