SUGGESTIONS NEEDED: About to buy my first major ball.
« on: March 01, 2005, 12:59:28 AM »
I've been bowling for about four years now and have done about two leagues a year and once a week at various "all you can bowl" type nights.  I think I've finally developed the consistency in my release to move up a notch. I've bowled these past three years with a re-drilled "Total Chaos" and have averaged in the 180s and hit a high of 289 and a pair of 700 series (708, 713).  I'm feeling ready to buy my first "major purchase" and have saved up the money.

About the way I bowl:

I'm right handed.

I dont know much about specs or the jargon for drilling. Have never received coaching from anyone.

I had a guy tell me I release a ball like I'm "releasing a fish." I'm pretty smooth in my delivery, no "THUD" on my release, medium speed (I like to control my shot and don't feel right cranking a shot).

I stand with my right foot center dot and arc the ball out and over the second arrow from the right and get a smooth arc to the pocket once it gets down the lane. I adjust from there.

I have an excellent pro shop where I bowl and was suggested to try and find a "Fantasy X" http://www.ballreviews.com/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ManufacterID=17&BallID=402 He said it would be the right fit for me, and affordable. Anyone else have any recommendations? I'm all ears (or eyes for that matter since I have to read my replies).

Thanks.

What kind of reaction do you want? Do you want something with similar rection to the Total Chaos? Or do you want something that will get a little more length and more back end reaction? Depending on what you want as far as what to look at for a ball. An Inferno may not be bad to start with, but depending on what reaction you want it may not be the right ball.

"I have an excellent pro shop where I bowl",...start there. Take your trusty old ball, arm yourself with the same questions you've asked here,..and I would do a little research in the Reviews section just to get some ideas of what YOU might like,..then go in and talk to the pro shop guy(s),..if they are excellent,..you'll be well taken care of. jim

I'm looking to add a bit more hook on the backend, not too much. Something that will let me line up an arrow left of the center and give me more room to throw the ball into.

LATEST UPDATE:

Been reading the reviews and visited my pro.  I was torn between a Big Bully or a Fear Factor.  I believe the Big Bully may just be what I'm looking for. I'm holding out until Monday, though, because the head pro is doing a ball revies for the Absolute Inferno and may plug it. If that's the case, then, I'm going the Abso.

Thanks for everyone who helped me out.

- Peace
