ESPN and the PBA

I have heard that ESPN is really fond of the PBA and the way it has been going up in all ways. I also heard that ESPN even asked for the PBA to change all tv shows to 2 hour shows, and not just the majors. I was just thinking how great it would be for bowling to be shown on Sportscenter. Show the results of every tv show every week. I mean, if ESPN is so happy with the way PBA is coming about, why not put them on Sportscenter, or ESPNEWS, or christ, at least even the BottomLine. I know they showed "PDW"'s 299 game a year or two ago on Sportscenter, but why not all the time? They got enough time on all those programs. I was just seeing what everyone else thinks, and see if anyone actually knows an answer.

Bowling doesn't make Sportscenter for the same reason that mnay other sports don't make the show.

Sportscenter is basically a highlight show.  What highlight can you show about bowling?  A strike this week looks just like the strike last week.

You won't see billards, table tennis, horseshoes, archery, or countless other sports unless something very unusual happens because there is no hightlight to show.

fellows, the pba DOES make sportscenter. norm dukes win in kansas city was shown as well as several others. my biggest beef-----put the pba back on abc-tv where it belongs !!!!!!!!

The problem was never the show's popularity. EVen ABC learned that the hard way: when they closed the PBA show, their next show, The Wide World of Sports had an tremendous drop in viewers which proved that the people who watched the PBA stayed on ABC to watch WWS.

The problem has always been, unlike golf and tennis, the "good" and expensive advertisers believed that bowling's viewers were not the type of people who bought expensive goods or were not the type of people they wanted buying their goods and services.  The advertising agencies for the "better" prodcuts believe that the stereotype of the bowler is the same as the stereotype for the bowling show's viewing audience: blue collar, redneck plumber whose butt sticks out their pants, who drink cheap beer - white trash. They don't care how many of them watch the show. They want Cadillac buyers, the kind they believe watch golf and tennis, even if their amount is considerably less than the number who watch bowlign shows.

I'm with Pin-nut on this one.  If ESPN really wants to foster the growth of the PBA's audience, give them a weekday prime time spot, like 9:00-11:00 on Tuesday.  Going up against the NFL on Sunday afternoon, it's amazing that the ratings are as high as they are.

And speaking of the NFL, another thing ESPN could do is tell those has-beens and never-weres on the NFL Countdown to knock off the laughing and giggling when they play the 30-second promo piece for the upcoming PBA show at the end of Countdown.

Hello!  The only reason I'm even watching your ugly mugs is that I'm waiting for those damn keglers (chuckle-chuckle-yuck-yuck).  Morons...

Good things come with time. Look at the state of being of golf in the 70's and where it is today. Look at Nascar and where it is today. I think it is no coincidence that the new Pba is show some signs of growth. Targetting the masses of blue-collar people is what nascar and golf did and hopefully it will catch on with the PBA. Highlights or just who won the tournament would be nice on Sportcenter. Come on they still show highlights from womens basketball!!!Yuk!!

Well they show highlights of every game of the MLB, NHL, NFL, and the NBA. Most of the games are always the same, where occasionally something very worth watching happens. So why not show just a small highlight of the PBA every week? Just show the highlights of each match or at least even the champion, and the final match. I think it would help out bowling a lot, and they got enough time to do it.

To the comment on announcers,
Randy Peterson is a great bowler, but a lousy commentator.  I listen to what he talks about and dont understand the stuff he trys to explain.  His explanations dont make any sense and I have never heard of some of his terms to certain things in bowling.
