3919 Scratch Team Score
« on: November 10, 2010, 09:22:45 AM »
Just got a text from a friend that owns a proshop in Ohio. He says a team in his league shot 3919 scratch last night. Third highest score ever. I will talk to him and get the details. For the 15 games, that's like a 261 avg.

[I'll be the first to say.....(cough) polesmoker (cough)

Who cares what they are bowling on?  Christ people just give credit where it's due....stop b**ching about how easy or hard the shot is.

well if your going to be all like that, i'll give them credit when Glen Allison gets his credit for his 900....

heck you even have FrontTwelv, admitting the shot is "anything" but tough and how he averaged 228 there just subbing...

And like i said, if you get a group of guys who all average 220+  and they all have a "good" day, yea your going to have scores like that....

What does Glen Allison have to do with them bowling a great set?  Yes...you're right, on a good day any group of 220+ bowlers can knock the bottom out.  I am on the team that set the Georgia series and game record, and we were bowling on China....it doesn't mean we didn't bowl great for that night.

Coming on here and saying "well must have been China" is just a complete douchebag thing to say, and you know it.  It's obvious that shot wasn't hard, but it doesn't mean the scores were given to them.  If the strikes were given away why didn't other teams bowl that good?

Put your sour grapes back in the bag and go home...take your bowling balls with you.  The game would be better without people that hate on every accomplishment.

I like the Modified House Shot comment though.  Anyone who does anything on China calls it a "modified house shot".  It's a house shot, it's big scores, regardless of the condition, still awesome!

I was looking on the ESPN message boards and they have nothing listed for bowling.. LOL

They do however have a message forum for the following:

Cricket
Pro Rodeo
Fishing
Poker
Cycling

No Bowling WTF.. What makes it even more funny is that ESPN owns part of the PBA and even televises it on their own network..

People make a living playing the other games listed there. Only a handful of people actually make much of a living bowling now. Bowling continues to become more and more of a joke with USBC not doing anything to get scoring under control.

Russell,

I do believe even you said that " bowling continues to become more and more of a joke with USBC not doing anything to get scoring under control "

So which is it???  is bowling a joke??? or should we give people the respect they feel they need when they are bowling on easy adult bumper bowling with super aggressive bowling balls....

As for the whole Glen Allison comment,  why is it anyone should give this team any respect when the USBC still hasnt given Glen Allison his due credit for his 900???

I said USBC needs to get scoring under control to bring integrity back to the game and allow the professionals to actually have a "craft" again.  That has nothing to do with giving people respect for breaking current records.  I don't blame the bowler for shooting high scores that USBC refuses to do anything about, they deserve respect for bowling well.

Glen Allison didn't get credit because his 900 was on lanes that were not in compliance.  Why is that so hard to understand?  Does that mean he didn't bowl well?..no.  Does that mean he cheated?...no.  The fact remains that the lanes were not legal.  The set that was bowled by these guys was bowled on lanes that were legal and sanctioned, so the comparison is invalid.

And the only reason the lanes anyone bowls on today is legal is because the usbc does "not" care about how they are (dressed) these days..  and yes i can remember back when any honor score had those lanes shut down to be checked.      heck now u have lanes that no matter where u throw the ball it just "goes" to the pocket.
i''''m sure if u could check the tapes for the lanes GA bowled on, at the time they would pass by a fair amount.
and u might be the only person who agrees with the usbc and not recognizing GA''s accomplishment.       and to say the usbc needs to step in, to control the scoring, is laughable...  they gave u a option its called the pbax leagues...
and why should the usbc try to control it the scoring????    bowlers as a whole should want to bring honor back to being able to average 200.

sorry just noticed my typing errors, since i was doing this from my cell phone @ the time lol.....

When Glen Allison shot his 900 he bowled the second shift! He also bowled the first shift and had I believe a 578 with a Columbia yellow dot! Back then the lanes had to have oil on every board and now it's a minimum of at least 3 units. If you check 3 units is basically no oil and it's ok. Yes, if they had the same standards back then his lanes would have past, but the rules were different! I had a 300 turned down back in those days and they had 24 hours to tape the lanes and sent to the local association and then to ABC for approval! Great shooting on the 3919 and china or not you still have to carry!!! How many times have you guys beat the pocket to death and not score? It was a great night for them to carry and congrats!!! Besides why didn't the other team shoot 3900? Just my $.02, Bruce

So I'm assuming you average 230 and shoot at least 10 800s per year?  If it's so easy to do I can only assume you are doing it on a regular basis right?  I mean if it just "GOES to the pocket" then everyone should be shooting 3900...heck why not 4000 on a weekly basis?  I mean if it's that easy right?

Give credit where it is due and stop playing sour grapes.  In your profile you brag about a 778 as your high set.  When the day comes you shoot another honor score I want you to turn the ring down.  Politely donate the money to a charity because you didn't earn it....I mean that's what you're saying right?

No...I didn't say anything like that.  I know the story, I know it was 2nd shift...I also know that according to the rules his set wasn't sanctioned.  I can't control that.  I think it is an amazing set that was bowled, and if there were a way to go back and find out if it was truly legit or not, then let's do it.  Reality is we can't.  I think Glenn is a great bowler and deserves credit, but unfortunately I don't have the weight to swing around to make that happen.

The reason USBC needs to step in is because of people like you.  You think that you are the only person who throws it good, and everyone else uses the area.  Let me clue you in to something.  I saw your videos, your revrate is high enough that you would average 230 if you had ANY clue where the ball was going.  Reality is you don't, but you only notice when other people miss by an arrow and strike.  Sorry to bust your bubble and make it personal, but the problem with bowling is in the mirror.  You come on here and trash someone else's accomplishments, when you know that if you shot 830 tonight you would come right on here and say "MAN I THREW IT GREAT TONIGHT".  The first time someone said "lol...house shot"...you would get irritated.

Sorry to call you out...not trying to make this personal...but I'm tired of people whipping their s**t out on the table everytime someone has a good score to share.

That's my point.  We can't go back and rewrite history in reverse.  It would be like the NFL going back and penalizing people for hits made 10 years ago and sending them a fine to be debited from their retirement account.

Congrats on the score!!  That's unreal.

Sadly....I didn't check the thread to see the details.  My first thought was to see just how long it took for someone to say it must have been on an easy shot.  Wasn't thinking that it would be the first comment, but sure enough.

Why is it that people can't just congrats and leave it at that??  Easy shot, ie Wall of China, means an even bigger breakdown of the shot if you've got 5 guys playing a similar line with the bowling balls we use today.  All it takes is 1 open a game to almost lose an 800 series.  That means there were a lot of strikes and again, to avoid ringing or flat 10s consistently....or solid 8 or 9 pins....you got to have a little luck on your side.

Sadly.......another one of the reasons this place went downhill....way too many people that just can't leave well enough alone.
