4-5-7 -- How do you make it?
« on: February 25, 2004, 08:36:21 PM »
I am pretty good at making spares and usually have a decent chance of making a lot of different splits.  I can't seem to figure out how to make the 4-5-7.

I've tried hooking and parking the ball between the 4/5 and that obviously leaves the 7.  So, how do you make it?  Let's remember now that I throw a slower ball so I won't be kicking any pins off the backboard

Your advice would be appreciated.

I don't have to shoot it often, but when I and others have had the misfortune of leaving it, take a less aggressive ball and flatten it out.  Catching the 5 thin on the left side should allow for deflection to take out the 4-7.  You don't want dead end-over-end roll, but you will want minimal side turn.

Hmmm, about the only ways you can do it without banking anything would be shoot and aim for the very right side of the 5 pin, and hope it slides across into the 4 which should hit the 7 in some sort of fashion. Otherwise its just aim for the middle and hope the 4 gives you a break.

So, is this a fairly easy one to make or one of the harder ones which it appears to be for me?

Since I tend to throw slower on my left side spares so that the ball kind of tracks across and hooks into the pins, should I try speeding it up?

I don't know if I've ever left this spare, but I would try to cover all three with the ball by revving and dropping ball speed to get the angle and hit high left side of five pin deflecting over into 4/7.

Best way to pick this up is to NOT leave it....or, simply grab a six pound house ball, turn it with Robert Smith-like revolutions, graze the far left side of the 5-pin, and take out the 4-7 with the ball...without that kind of ability or a decent amount of luck, it'll be tough.

So it appears to be a crap shoot and I shouldn't feel that inadequate if I only take out two of the three pins

Don't leave that crap and you will not have to worry about it.

The best way that i have found to make it is to move right and shoot across lane at the very left side of the 5 pin.  Doing this and having an angle when you hit the 5, the ball will hit the 4 pin and take out the 7 also.  Hope this helps. Steve

Some of you are quite creative in your approach - LOL

Getuaload -  If I didn't leave "crap" I wouldn't be a true 170ish bowler

Kan Man - so you're saying to throw it straight across on the diagonal

BennyH-

Spares are my strength.  It's my striking ability that's lacking.  If you need me to pick up a spare in the 10th, I'm usually there.

If I could strike as well as I spare, I would be dangerous
