Some Great Pros
« on: January 18, 2004, 10:15:17 AM »
Yesterday a friend of mine and I bowled the Pro Am in Reno.  I had the pleasure of bowling with Bob Learn, Jr. and Randy Weiss.

Bob is great bowler and overall nice guy.  2 of the pros scheduled to bowl were unable to bowl due to the fact they were still in Medford.  As a result the pro for our pair was also bowling on 19-20.  He rolled a 278 on our pair and a 260 something on the other pair.

In talking with Bob, he said he had bowled the prior Pro Am squad and was also bowling the one today.  I made some coment about a glutton for punishment, meaning dealing with us amatures.  He said he enjoyed the pro ams.  It was cool hearing that.  It tells me he knows the value of us average Joe and Jane bowlers, not only to the PBA as supporters, but to bowling in general.

I had bowled with Randy last year at the Pro Am in Vegas and teased him about his shooting a 300 on the pair prior to ours and only shooting 279 for us.  He replied he'd just have to shoot 300 this time.  He didn't, maybe next time.

Our 3rd Pro was Jim Wallace.  He was also very nice.  He was struggling with the condition, so wasn't quite as social.  Overall a great experience.

If he was bowling the 3PM squad, I saw him at least when the introduced all the Pros.  Unfortunately, I was a bit stressed at that time.  Read my "A Little Story" post for an explanation.

The name sounds familiar.  Is he going to bowl the US Open?  I'm probably going to bowl the Pro AM for that one and will watch for him if he is.
