4 X 3??? 5 X 5????
« on: May 17, 2004, 04:26:41 AM »
I see people saying they drilled a ball, say for instance, with a 5X5 drilling, or a 4X3 drilling, what does this mean? I dont mean those two specifically there just examples, but in general what does something X something mean?

bk25-the easiest way to find your pap is to visit a good proshop.  It will save you time.  However, there are ways to find it yourself.  I am not exactly sure of the best way.  Hopefully others will chime in and help me out.

I wish we could.  Only one "pro" within about 30 minutes, and he doesn't know anything and charges a lot (for high end ball with slug/grips, it's about $255!).  Unless we were buying something, he'd literally tell us to go away.  So hopefully, someone will chime in....

To find your PAP, take a clean, dry, low flaring ball (plastic is ideal) and throw a strike shot. When it comes back, trace the oil line closest to your thumb and finger holes with a grease pencil. Put the ball in an ashtray with the line parallel to the table and your thumb and finger holes above the line. The very top of the ball should be your PAP. Put a 1” piece of tape (contrasting color) there. Throw the ball again. If the tape stays stable the first 15-20’ of the lane, you’ve found it. It might take a little tweaking to get it just right. The measurement of the PAP is taken from your grip center. Measure straight over from your grip center to the spot just above/below the tape, then measure up or down again to the center of the tape. A typical measurement is 5” over, 1” up.

Ebonite has some detailed explanations on their site.  Here's the link to one on the Positive Axis Point.

http://www.ebonite.com/techcenter/positiveaxispt.php

For me, it's clear as mud...5 x 5, 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 or 3 3/8 x 3 3/8...I can consistently miss the pocket with all of them.
