With some bowlers having problems with the new equipment coming out, getting these balls to work on heavy oil and even medium heavy as the manufacturer states they will. I was wondering how many average bowlers league or otherwise, can actually make a 4000 grit ball work on those conditions. Doesn't the average bowler need anywhere from 1000 to as low as 500 grit to work on the heavier conditions.

Not at all. SOme of these covers are VERY strong. Many Ebonite and Hammerball snow come standard with a 4000 grit finish and are considered usable by average to stronger players on medium-heavy to heavy oil.
Of course, there are those people who throw the ball 25 mph and have 3 revs.
They seem to need heavy oilers to get a ball to hook on medium light oil patterns.
There are average players and then there are average players.

I agree, I have a Black Widow drilled 3x5 pin right of ring and MB directly under the thumb. At OOB(4000) it needed lots of head oil. I added a light coat of Brunswick Factory Finish Polish to give me a little more length. This ball is so freaking sweet now!! The Big One was another Heavy oil strong ball OOB at 4000 grit.
