« on: March 09, 2010, 09:10:43 AM »

plastic up 13

Sounds like a interesting shot... would definitely approach it with an open mind though, don't bet on anything, bring a selection and see what fits your game and the shot the best...

I'd go with a 1000grit early hooking ball..

1k on the VG sounds pretty good to me..  But yea, I'd go with grit, untill you burn a path and then switch up and try some different stuff.

If it's a heavier oil, I'd stick with a ball with surface.

What is the lane surface? What is the total volume and how is it distributed front to back? Rev rate and ball speed? All those questions would need to be answered for a credible suggestion to be made. There is no easy answer.

If you have a super angular snappy ball that is just too snappy on about any normal condition .. try it out..
You will more than likely have to slow it down to give it time to move in the 12 ft it has to move in but it might give you some movement and angle that you aren't going to get in a heavy dull roller..

like said.. it depends on the volume of oil though....
If nothing is moving in the oil then give it a try..

1:1 is great and all, but what is the oil volume. This will significantly impact how easy the lanes can become.

Classic.  If you''re just practicing, walk in with an open mind and see what works for you.  The thing that works the best for me on a shot like this is staying home. LOL

Yup, that's what practice is for. You already seem to have an idea how to tackle the shot, so it is time to prove theory and see how you can adjust your game.

Just keep a keen eye on the ball's reaction and be open-minded about the area the lane allows you to play. I'd guess that a straight line down in the 2nd arrow area would be a good start (with a rollier piece - from my arsenal, I'd start out with my OOB NS² with a strong label layout, of which I know that it excels on such conditions like no other ball in my bag), but from there it is "true bowling".

You can be lucky that you actually know or got notice of what you can expect!
Good luck, and have fun

Is that the BTM shot from a few years ago?  Fall back with something that arcs and you will be in the pocket or just move right and crank it up the gutter.

That would be a point and pray shot for me.  44' is about my limit.  Beyond that, I can't get anything to tip.

I like to play this with a polished solid, something that is going to retain some energy for the backend (what little there is) and play a shot up the 10-12 board area.  WE have a local tourney here 50 ft flat with good volume, most guys like to get out to the 1-2 board area looking for that friction zone, but the several times I have thrown on it when fresh, up 10 with a ball that has recovery
