What does your league it's 50/50 money on? Also, do they list 50/50 as an income on your league reports?
-
50/50 income is put into sweepers team event so every team gets some money back. I don't know how it is listed on league reports.

On my Monday league they listed it as income and split it up with the winnings. My Friday league didn't list it and the only money that was split up was from dues. They said part of the 50/50 was to go to the banquet. If you had a meal you had to pay for it plus there was a deduction for the banquet as well. The way I figure it 50/50 earning should have been around $2000. Not sure where that money went.

In the one league I've been in that does 50/50, it goes into the prize fund. Whatever the payout is supposed to be, it's simply scaled to reflect the actual amount in the prize fund.
We've been collecting 50/50 at the women's state tournament here on the weekends. That money goes to Bowl for the Cure or BVL (can't remember).

We use ours for a sweeper while the roll-off is going on. We pay so many spots for high game scratch and handicap, and set as well. I think this year we have about $2500 for it. The only problem I have with it is that not everyone buys 50/50 tickets, yet they get to win some of that money. I just don't like that.

We don’t do this and I don’t understand the allure.
If you want more money in the prize fund then raise the weekly fees.
If you want to gamble then start brackets, high game pots, etc. or simply draw against what was sold in tickets with all money going to the winners that week.
I constantly hear complaints about the cost of league bowling but so many end up gambling almost as much each week as they spend bowling.

In our league, each team member is required to purchase $1.00 p/week with the option to purchase more. The basis of the 50/50 was to ensure prize fund against anyone dropping out of league. We have holiday gift raffles and such.
Usually each league member will get there $36.00 back and remaining monies will
be given away in the end of night drawing. Where no additional money is collected and each league member is giving a ticket for the drawing.

Pretty much every mixed league I've been in has done a 50/50 with each team (by team number) having a week or two to sell them throughout the season.
I don't see the harm in it as it pays for added things like a christmas party, thanksgiving party, etc.
And in a league where everyone has to sell tickets, I really hate the argument that "Well, not everyone buys the tickets, and then they collect at the end." Here's the thing, they aren't getting the added monies for BUYING tickets. BUYING tickets get you a chance at winning half of the money collected THAT NIGHT. You get the added monies at the end because you sold the tickets just like everyone else.
My league averages giving back 13-14 bucks per person at the end of the league. For not even an hour of my time, one week of the season, that's not bad.

Still.
Add an extra dollar to the prize fund each week.
Nobody has to sell, everybody participates equally, the money is there for banquets, prizes, etc.
The only reason to run the 50/50 is to satisfy a gambling itch.
-
Our's becomes a little boost to the prize fund and/or to recover any lost dues.

In one of my leagues, half goes to 2 winners a night(about 180-200 apiece a night). The other half is saved till the end of the year and at payout they do random draws out of a bag of tickets at $60 a pop till all the money is gone. Ofcourse this league is full of drinking gamblers, so it's all in fun. The bowler who only buys 1 ticket a night is always the 1 who wins 3 or 4 pulls at the end of the year to the dismay of those who put in $25 a night. Between brackets, pot games, side bets, and 50/50, lineage is not a concern in this league!

Our 50/50 money goes to local youth bowling scholarship programs.
