Whats the mixture I have seen some talk about and what is the procedure to cleaning. I have a cell pearl that I've thrown for about a month and would really like to maintain it. Thanks

Don't use acetone is will soften the cover and can lead to ball death, not to mention it's illegal.

Yeah right. what's this ball death I keep hearing about? 15 years of bowling I have not yet experienced this "ball death".
I've also used ABC approved cleaner that would melt the rubber gloves I was using. 10% acetone won't do any harm IMO.but you can skip the acetone if you want.

I somewhat agree.. acetone.. yes is illegal.. but have you seen what the ebonite powerhouse cleaner does to the plastic cap. It melts it into a blob.
I wonder what it does to the pores of a bowling ball? I feel the USBC gets alot of pressure from manufactures to stay out of their way in making money. Seems their criteria for passing certain products may not be that strong.
Not to start a conspiracy theory.. but "hey lets sell a cleaner and tell everyone they must use it to keep their ball clean but it will slowly close the pores and in about 6 to 8 months they will have to get a new ball because their ball is a marble now."

Has anyone actually seen damage from using acetone? Only reason its illegal is because its extremely flammable. U myself have not found anything that cleans my ball better. Tryed most cleaners out there with no success. Still leaves belt marks and lane marks.

simple green will leave a soap film on your ball.
I use a equal mix of alcohol,clear ammonia, and clear vinegar.
Takes off the oil, dirt, and belt marks and leaves no film on your ball.

It is actually illegal because in the days of only plastic balls (maybe rubber too) people would soak the entire ball in a bucket of acetone, MEK, or other solvent and it would make the ball much softer and grip the lane better. Thus the reason for a minimum hardness rating by the USBC.

as far as simple green .. I don't trust it. It seems to leave a slick film on the surface. And I know it says non-toxic, biodegradeble but there aren't many cleaners that make me cough and gasp like simple green. Maybe CLR but that stuff IS toxic.

I use this mixture, and it works great:

50% Simple Green

50% Isopropyl Alcohol (90%)

Make sure you use the 90% Isopropyl alcohol and you will get fantastic results. Most of the Isopropyl alcohol sold in stores like Wal-Mart are either 50% or 70%. If you want to find 90%, go to a pharmacy, like Walgreens, they always have some and it's very inexpensive. Good luck!

I've had a BuzzBomb in out of box condition since I've owned it that has at least a couple hundred games on it. It performs just as good as the day I bought it.

It's not as cut and dry as just using a cleaning mixture.

I use a SG/Alcohol mix to clean my equipment just after I finish bowling before I put my equipment in the bag to leave. Don't wait until you get home and don't do it when you take your equipment out the following outing.

I use Clean and Dull about once a month when I reapply my polish, and finish the process with Docs Magic Elixir to help keep oil from getting in.

Helps to own your own spinner, but it's still easily done with the right products.

At this point, I don't think I could bleed much oil out of my ball, because there wouldn't be much in there.

Isopropyl alcohol is fine for surface cleaning,not for deep cleaning.
The reason being is iso has some paraffin in it.
To get a good deep cleaning carry a spray bottle with a small amount of
dishwashing liquid and water along with a spray bottle of de-natured
alcohol says my proshop owner.

i've used simple green to clean bowling balls for over 5 years and have never had any type of problem. i usually mix it half water, half simple green.
