20 years ago was Bowling Digest A Prophet???
« on: April 30, 2013, 03:46:34 PM »
I was just browsing ebay and among the Bowling Digest magazines for sale from various different sellers is the Sept/Oct 1993 issue of bowling digest; and on the cover of the magazine is featured.........

"The Resin ball explosion"

"This highly reactive ball can blow a rack to
pieces-------but is it making the game too easy?"

So I guess I am wondering, is verdict in yet??

Resin balls had a huge impact on award scores because of their immense friction off the dry.  Not so much on averages because they tend to blow up the pattern much more quickly than urethane did.  Resin is the first ball that actually caused oils volumes and viscosities to be altered to deal with the ball.

I always found it ironic that when the ABC mandated the limited distance oil to combat high scoring in the 80's, they did the very thing that made urethane balls more effective.  Lots of head oil and short patterns allowed guys to play much further out and create strong entry angle with urethane that would not have been available on flatter long patterns.
