Anyone Throwing the Motiv Venom Toxin ?
« on: May 06, 2013, 09:23:20 PM »
Is anyone currently using the venom toxin? I like the look of the ball and the specs, however i have not seen one person use or even own it in my area. How is the bowling ball over all ?

Yep, I have the Venom Toxin. It's a very good all around medium oil piece. With a pin up drill, it gets good length with nice recovery on the backend. I've been able to successfully use the Toxin on THS and lighter volume Sport Shots.

I find the Toxin to be more versatile than the Thrash Frenzy. The Toxin has become my new benchmark ball in the Motiv line.

I see the same thing, very versatile piece rolls real nice.

I personally see the same thing all of you do with the Toxin. I mentioned in my review here that I feel it is a great benchmark ball. It is predictable, and can be utilized playing different angles. It is one of those balls that I have to have multiple drillings on. I feel that it is one of the least conditional balls MOTIV currently makes.

Thanks, i might pick one up. do you think it will work best with oob cover, or can i change the cover for different conditions. I recently started dulling down some of my covers not drastically but its been great and not so skid snap.

I had Frankie May drill me 2 of these in Reno when i was there in march.  we kept one OOB and 1 at 1000 grit..  This ball didnt look good at all in Reno but thats besides the point...   I've thrown it on THS and Viper and it was a little too early on viper for me to where it really wanted to check up in the mids.....

where this ball shines for me is on THS...  this ball in my honest opinion is the THS killer ball.  it just gets to the pocket and strikes...  for me this ball will hit the pocket from anywhere.....

To answer your question yes you can certainly tune this coverstock based on what the bowler needs. I personally have utilized 2000 no polish, 2000 grit with Power Gel Polish (box), and 4000 grit no polish. With me being speed dominant I normally need to "break" the polish on out of box balls. I will say though that this core seems to dominate the cover. As Mr. Green said there are times where I can't use it because it does dig in too hard to the midlane.

i have a GT1 and from the specs i saw i thought it wouldnt do much, but that ball no matter what i do to the ball doesnt no when to stop hooking. took weight out change the span and mess with the cover and still to much, which i cant figure out or the pro shop guy. He said it should not do what its doing lol. is the toxin similar to the GT1 since i see the Dif is very low like it . Gt1 is like 2.47  dif .32   and toxin is 2.48 dif .34 is it going to act like my GT1?

Icon,

The Gear core that is at the heart of the Toxin is also the core used in the GT1.

The thing that I think fools people is yes it has low differential for a modern core at approximately 0.034 (15 lb), but at the same time the RG value is on the low end 2.48.

So what I see from these numbers is a very fast revving move in the front part of the lane and a smoother, more subtle transition down lane. I think that we are so used to seeing these big low RG asymmetrical cores rev up and flip that when something is a bit smoother in the same RG class it tricks one's eyes.
