weight of a ball
« on: April 20, 2010, 01:23:19 PM »
I need a little input here. My mom who is turning 80 currently bowls with  a 12lb ball. She literally throws abot 8 to 10 mph. We joke about taking a snooze and waking up to see the ball hit the head pin. All jokes aside when she was younger she held a 200 to 220 average for years and hass a couple of 299's. Her current average is about 140. She bowls twice a week and is deadly accurate most of the time. Her ball speed just kills her game. So our summer league coming up bowls with the same ball. We all buy a copperhead at the beginning of the league and thats the only ball we can roll on every shot. They couldnt get a 12 and she opted for an 11lb. Her current ball weighs exactly 12.2 and her new ball started at 10.15 before drilling. Shes really concerned her game will drop even more with the lighter ball. So what do ya think, will the lesser weight allow her a hair more speed and make up for the lighter aspect?????    Im having a hard time finding the copperhead in a 12.

seems like with that low of a ball speed and weight , there is going to be alot of deflection no matter what, but since she is accurate a pocket hit might be good.. i threw a 8 pounder when i was  8 yrs old and had plenty of games where i had strikes with the pins flying everywhere and great pin action.. And the ball technology was nowhere near what it is now, with the powerful cores, and covers.. and im sure my ball speed wasnt much faster than hers

Also im in the summer freeze league, where when you sign up for leagues they give you a new freeze, and its the only ball you can use as well.. Cool to see other places are doing it too.. I think an Invasion league would be better myself
