Obviously the original poster isn't a Scratch Tournament bowler. Not counting the ABC Tournament, every big scratch or collegiate tournament I've ever been to to spectate, or bowl in, 2 lane curtosey was not only expected, but the norm. If done right with bowlers that know what they are doing it goes just as fast as any other form of play. Maybe faster. It's not a hard concept so get a hold of. Take an example, in a 16 lane house Lanes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16 go throw a ball at the same time to start off, then lanes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 go throw a ball, then the bowlers on the first set of lanes clear a spare if need be while lanes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, set up to bowl. Then repeat.
It's the guys that take forever looking both ways like they're crossing time square than hold up the play on two lane curtosey. I feel if you're in a league format, observe the bowlers and see what the lane curtosey system is of the house and adapt to it. I bowl a full collegiate tournament schedule and about 5-8 scratch tournaments a year and that's all 2 lane curtosey, so I'm used to that, but in my Wednesday night league guys are used to 1 lane curtosey so I have to adapt even though it was foreign to me at first because even in leagues back home where I am originally from, you'll get 2 lanes curtosey.
It's a conterversial topic, but you're all rilled up about it and throwing a fit like it's been bothering you all day. I'll see a bowler like you in the house throwing a fit like that and I'll make sure I can do anything possible that's going to cause you to fry out cause it only shows a weak mental game. Think about that.
